MBD Simulation on a Piston Assembly
MBD Simulation on a Piston Assembly
Aim : the analysis of the reciprocating motion of the piston is studied for various positions of the wrist pin axis with respect to the axis of rotation of the crank. there are three conditions
| Sl.No |
Wrist Pin Offset ` |
Crank Speed (Rpm) |
| 1 | "0" mm | 2000 |
| 2 | 10 mm Positive | 2000 |
| 3 | 10 mm Negative | 2000 |
Introduction : An engine is a machine designed to convert one form of energy into mechanical energy. Heat engines, like the internal combustion engine, burn a fuel to create heat which is then used to do work. Piston assembly consists of the piston head, connecting rod, gudgeon pin, crank and crankpin. In this Project, our concern will be limited to only the wrist pin offset.
Wrist pin offset refers to the piston wrist pin being a bit offset to one side of the piston i.e. not exactly in the centre of the piston. Offsetting the cylinder axis from the crankshaft axis minimizes rod angularity when cylinder pressure is at its highest.
Procidure :
first to create all requre parts :
Assembly :
Then assemble all parts in complite assembly:
Motion Analysis :
Obtain the Linear displacement of the Piston Head in all the three cases :
| Sl.No |

Crank Speed (Rpm) |
| 1 | "0" mm | 2000 |
| 2 | 10 mm Positive | 2000 |
| 3 | 10 mm Negative | 2000 |
motion analysis time 0.5 sec.
crank rotation is in the Clockwise direction.
Also add for batter result fps 1700 and precise result
"0" mm Wrist Pin Offset :
10 mm Positive Wrist Pin Offset
10 mm Negative Wrist Pin Offset
Result:
Then Superimpose all the three graphs into a single graph.
"0" mm Wrist Pin Offset : green line
10 mm Positive Wrist Pin Offset : yellow line
10 mm Negative Wrist Pin Offset : orange line
