Challenge

Introduction to REVIT concepts

1. Aim - From the file menu, create a new project (Structural / Architectural / Construction template ) and name the project appropriately

Introduction - Revit Architecture is designed to accomodate variousways to working, so that you can concentrate on your building models on adapting to your methodology to software. Revit Architecture is a powerful building information modelling software for architets, enginners , designers and contractors. This fast paced, intensive course guides students through introductory commands of Revit Architecture in order to produce working and presentation working.

Procedure - First Start the Revit Software

Then ,From the model tab and click NEW.

Then the new dialogue box will apear to the screen ,click on metric architectual template.

Then press enter to OK.

Finally new workspace will be loaded. And to name the project.

Go to the file menu, save and enter the project as project 2.

Result - New File is created with name of Project 2.

2. Aim - Save the new project file. Close and open using icons from file toolbar.

Procedure - Go to the File menu ,click on the save option in it.

Then ,give name to the file and click save button.

To change the location of the saved project ,click on save as and enter a different loaction.

To open a file, in the file menu open project.

If want to close menu bar as same go to the menu click close option.

Result - The file save ,Close and open using tool bar.

3. Aim - From the architecture/ structure toolbar familiarize with options to draw a wall. Create a rectangular layout of walls of about 40’-0” X 35’-0”

Procedure - Open the Rivet Software ,Select New and selct imperial architectural template.

Click on wall from the architectural tab - basic wall 8".

Click on the floor plan area and enter 40'.

Move the mouse download and type 35'.

Again type 40' placing the mouse to left.

Again type 35' upwards.

A rectangle is created of 40' x35'.

Hence The wall is created.

4. Aim - From the Annotate toolbar use the aligned option to add dimensions to the layout

Procedure - Open the Revit Software.

Create wall as a imperial template as given below.

Go to the annotate tab go to the aligned dimension.

Result - Then , provide the dimension to the wall thus created.

5. Aim - Use the properties browser to switch to different wall types

Procedure - Open the Revit Software.

Create wall in the imperial template as given below.

Now, select the wall createdand then go to properties panel in the left side of your drawing area.

In that go to the edit option where you can change the wall types.

Result - Hence the wall type is changed to generic 8" masnory.

6. Aim - Create a 3D view from the view toolbar and save the view with the appropriate name.

Procedure - Open the Revit software.

Create a wall in a imperial Tamplate.

Now we have create the 3D view of this wall.

Now this go to view tab and choose 3D view option.

Hence 3D view is developed.

Now we have to save the view for this click the full navigation wheelon the navigation bar.

Then , right click the steering wheel and click save view.

Now enter a name for the new 3D view and then click OK.

Final Result -

7. Aim - Navigate through the 3D model using the view cube. Orbit/pan through the model layout created.

Procedure - To an orbit /pan we have to click on the view cube and then change the orientation to view different views.

Similarly different view can be obtained by simply orbiting through view cube.

Result -

8. Aim - Use the visibility settings option below to switch model to shaded, realistic, hidden lines options.

Procedure - Take the 3D view of the wall.

Now go to visibility section which can be accessed from the below panel.

Now select the hidden line.

Now select the model shaded.

Then change the visibility to realistic.

Final Result -

9. Aim - Turn the sun path on and off to view shadings in the layout created.

Procedure - Create a realistic view of the 3D wall.

Now make the sun on and off to view the shading.

Sun Path Off View

Sun Path On View

10. Aim - Use the Manage toolbar to enter project settings, project name, and project issue date (choose according to your convenience).

Procedure - Go to manage toolbar

In this Choose Project Information.

Now fill necessary Data.

Hence Completed.

11. Aim - What is the Analyze toolbar used in Revit? How it is beneficial for design and modeling.

Procedure - Analyze toolbar in Revit helps in evaluating the building performance - analyzing the model by boundary conditions loads etc.

It evaluates the sustainability of the model.

BENIFITS OF ANALYZE THE TOOL FOR DESIGN AND MODELLING.

Structural Analysis it has been.

Boundary Condition - We can give the line and area boundary conditions to the model.

Loads - We can apply point , line and area load to the model.

Load Cases - We can add and edit the load cases.

Load Combinations - To add load combinations.

It also help to perform energy optymization and energy anlysis.

For energy analysis it has features.

HEATING AND COOLING LOADS ANALYSIS :

To create hrating and cooling load analysis report useful for mechanical engineers for ventilation ducts or heating and cooling system.

Revit allows to perform analysis in multiple disciplines , so when collabrating in every descipline they can perform their own task seperatly and come together as a team to show progress.

We can achieve the progress of project together from all descipline.

12. Aim - What are the links that Revit supports to be linked to the model?

Procedure - In insert tab links are found. It is used to link different files to the file current file.

LINK REVIT - It allows to link another revit model to the current model.

LINK IFC - To Link ifc file to current model to reference its information for additional design work.

LINK Cad - To link 2d cad file to create revit file to create 3d by revit tools.

LINK TOPOGRAPHY - To link to the current model.

MANAGE LINKS - Provides features to manage the links to the buidling model.

13. Aim - Why do you need the Collaborate tab in Revit? How it supports modeling and its efficiency.

Procedure - It is the features which helps to collabrate and help the team members to work on the model simultaneously.

In modelling it helps the team members of different descipline to work on the same file simulatneously.

The efficiency of the modelling will be high as the work can be finished faster.

we do not have to wait for one model to be completed to start the model of next descipline.
