Identification of Cracks
1a)
Observation :
1. It has occured at the Beam Column Junction
2. Concrete is crushed at the bottom of the beam.
3. Reinforcement is also damaged at the bottom
4. Due to the flange advantage from the slab the top of beam is not affected
5. Even some cracks have occured at the Top of the beam
Conclusion :
1. Its form of a flexural failure
2. The top compression was managed due to the slab
3. The bottom tension was not satisfied by the provided reinforcement
4. The reinforcement has yeilded so it cannot be repaired
1b)
Observation:
The cracks have occured at the surface of the column
2. Width of the crack is wider
3.Beam is detached from the column
4. Concrete is not crushed
Conclusion:
1. It is a pull out failure due to insufficiant developement length
2. Providing anchorage length between two existing concrete is very difficult. So not repairable
3. It is a beam pullout failure
4. Cannot be repaired
1c)
Observation :
1. The crack is occured not only through out the beam. But the cracks have spread even on the slab
2. It has occured at the beam and column joint
Conclusion:
1. Its a plastic hinge failure
2. Slab has severly handled the tension
3. As we can see that slab has undergone tension and hence there are cracks on slab
4. It can be repaired and strengthened
2a)
Observation:
1. Concrete is damaged at the the top of the column
2. Some of its damaged near the bottom of the beam
3. Reinforcement is affected even from the interior side of the column face
4. Beams are safe
Conclusion :
1. It is a plastic hinge formation
2. It has occured at the top of the column
3. Due to the absemce of infill wall the top of the columns are affected
4. It can either be repaired or non repaired
2b)
Observation:
1. Concrete has crushed at the column
2. Longitudinal reinforceent are intact
3. Reinforcement are affected
4. Its a complete shear failure
Conclusion:
1. The spacings between the stirrups is more
2. It cannot be repaired
2c)
Observation :
1. There is a failure in the column
2. Failure has occured at the top of the Column
3. Two slabs are connected to the column, One is resting on a column and other is connected to the column
4. The wooden piles are to temporarily support the failure
Conclusion:
1. It is a short column failure
2. Reinforcment is affected and damaged as it is a complete column failure.
3. Beam or slab connected to this column can face some effects of the failure
4. It cannot be repaired
