Hood design-Week 2

AIM :

To design Hood with the following requirements

-Design outer panel with the hemming

-Develop the inner panel

-Develop all the necessary Reinforcements

-Mirror and position the hinge and striker

-provide mastic data

-Provide the required emboss definition

Tool used : Catia V5

Theory : Hood refers to a fabric cover over the passenger compartment of the car. In many motor vehicles built in the 1930s and 1940s, the resemblance to an actual hood or bonet is clear when open and viewed head-on; in modern vehicles it continues to serve the same purpose but no longer resembles a head covering.

The following guidelines should be considered while designing the hood-

  1. outer panel thickness = 0.75mm
  2. inner panel thickness =0.75mm
  3. Reinforcement thickness = 1.5mm
  4. Minimun fillet radius = 3mm+thickness
  5. No sharp edges
  6. Provide proper corner relief
  7. Emboss maximum depth = 6-7mm

Given calculation :

Outer panel with hamming :

Hamming data :

-It is used for joining the inner and outer panel.

-When force is applied during hemming there may be a change of shape which is examined and relaxation is given in those areas.
