Hood design-Week 2

Hood Design

The car hood is also known as the bonnet. it is a hinged cover that protects the engine and other essential components of a vehicle. Car hood design refers to the shape, style, and features of the hood.

Car hood design is important for several reasons. First, it can greatly impact the car's overall appearance and aesthetic appeal. The hood is one of the most visible and prominent parts of the vehicle, so its design can significantly influence the car's perceived style, sportiness, and luxury.

Second, the car hood design can affect the car's performance and aerodynamics. The hood shape can impact the amount of airflow that reaches the engine, affecting its cooling and performance. Additionally, the hood's weight, shape, and design can affect the car's center of gravity and balance, impacting handling and stability.

Finally, the car hood design can impact safety. A well-designed hood can provide protection for the engine and other critical components in the event of a collision. It can also incorporate features such as pedestrian protection systems and active hood systems, which can enhance safety for both the car's occupants and other road users.

Overall, car hood design plays an important role in a vehicle's aesthetics, performance, and safety.

Pedestrian safety: Pedestrian safety is an important consideration while designing the hood. According to the wrap-around distance and pedestrian head impact zone hood is designed. Safety is the most important criterion in automobile designs which concentrates on both pedestrian and occupant safety. Pedestrians are the most vulnerable road users and are at high risk of traffic accidents. The major reason for the fatality of pedestrians in traffic accidents is the head injury resulting from the hard impact of the head against the stiffer hood or the ground. This leads to the necessity of a new inner hood panel that is less stiff and pedestrian friendly. The area at the head impact zone is made softer to reduce the impact force during an accident.
