Hood design-Week 2

OBJECTIVE

Design hood outer panel, inner panel and reinforcements with the given outer hood skin, master section and design parameters.

INTRODUCTION

A car hood also referred to as a bonnet in some other countries is the hinged cover that rests over the engine of a front-engine vehicle. Its purpose is to provide access to the engine for repair and maintenance. Car hoods are typically constructed from steel and sometimes aluminum.

In UK terminology, a hood refers to a fabric covering over the passenger compartment of the car (known as the “roof” or “top” in the US). For many motor vehicles built in the 1930s and 1940s, the resemblance to an actual hood is clear when it is opened and viewed from the front; in modern vehicles, it still serves the same purpose, but no longer resembles head cover.

PARAMETERS

OUTER PANEL THICKNESS =0.75mm

INNER PANEL THICKNESS =0.75mm

RENIFORCEMENT THICKNESS =1.5 mm

MASTER SECTION

OUTER PANEL

In general, the hood panel is installed in the front of the vehicle so as to protect parts in the engine compartment and the engine compartment and at the same time open and close the hood panel for replacement and repair of components in the engine compartment.

The hood panel of the vehicle has a form in which an outer panel and an inner panel are combined, and has a frame structure for rigidity reinforcement in order to ensure hood rigidity and durability.

INNER PANEL

Hood inner panel of the present invention comprise the hood for forming vehicle inner panel main body, be arranged at inner panel main body and along overall width direction extend front side strengthening rib and be arranged at inner panel main body and be positioned at front side strengthening rib rear view of vehicle side and along overall width direction extend rear side strengthening rib.And front side strengthening rib bends than the mode of end, overall width direction by vehicle front with overall width direction central portion, and rear side strengthening rib bends than the mode of end, overall width direction by rear view of vehicle with overall width direction central portion

STRIKER

Our Hood Latch Striker is designed for long-lasting use. It's durable steel construction safeguards against body damage, ensuring the vehicle hood won't unexpectedly open while driving. Easy to install - latch restores proper hood functionality. They are designed to cover equipment like the vehicle's motor, transmission, radiator, alternator, battery and other components. If you need to access any of these components, though, you'll have to open the hood. You can open the hood on a vehicle by engaging the hood latch. Hood latches typically connect to a cable

HINGE

A hood hinge mechanism having a pivot pin having a D-shaped cross sectional shape positioned within a recess. The hood and pin are pivotal to a position whereat the D-shaped cross section is oriented to pass through a slotted opening to the recess to thereby allow the hood to be removed or installed on the vehicle.

LATCH TRAJECTORY

The latch trajectory is the path which the striker will follow when the hood is open (or) closed while pivoting on the hinge axis. The latch trajectory is taken as a circle with the hinge axis as the center of the circle

MASTIC

Mastic Sealer is a synthetic rubber based sealer material which has a good filling properties and corrosion resistance. It is designed to applied at hood in specific, the gaps between inner & outer panel. Mastic selant points are effective around a circular region of 80mm diameter.

HEMMING

Hemming presses are widely used in automotive manufacturing for hemming of sheet metal body components. The process uses traditional hydraulically operated ‘stamping presses’ to hem closure parts, and, being the last forming process in stamping , it largely determines the external quality of such automotive parts as doors, hood and trunk lid.
