FORCES ACTING ON A VEHICLE
FORCES ACTING ON A VEHICLE:
AIM:
- To calculate the maximum speed at varying tire size code provided.
- To prepare a simple excel calculator to identify vehicle propulsion power based on given inputs and outputs. Implement formulas in cells.
- Based on the video provided we need to calculate gradeability and the type of forces acting on the vehicle.
PROCEDURE:
- case(1)
TIRE SIZE:90/100 R10 53J

With the help of the above image the tire code is decoded as follows:
Rim Diameter=10 INCHES=254mm
Tire Height=90mm
Tire Radius=(252/2)+90
=217mm
Velocity=90Kmph=25m/s
Gear Ratio=7
Angular Velocity of the motor(`omega`)=G*V/R
=(7*25)/0.217
`omega`=806.45rad/sec
- case(2)
TIRE SIZE:90/90 R18 51P
Rim Diameter=18 inches=457.2mm
Tire Height=90mm
Tire Radius=(457.2/2)+90
=318.6mm
Velocity=90Kmph=25m/s
Gear Ratio=7
Angular Velocity of the motor(`omega`)=G*V/R
=(7*25)/0.3186
`omega`=549.27rad/s
2)Excel Calculator to identify the Propulsion Power:

3)Tire Pressure Reduction by 15% Results in an increase of Rolling resistance effect by 2 times.

The 15% reduction in tire pressure results in an increase of rolling resistance effect by two times and this effect increases Traction power by 1.59% keeping all other parameters the same.
4)Based on the video it was observed that,
- The gradeability is 45deg.
- The average speed of the car:
- The Final ascent challenge includes completing 999 steps and it covers in 22 mins and 41 sec and so the avg speed=999/((22*60)+41)=0.73 steps/sec.
- The type of forces acting on the car includes Rolling Resistance, Aerodynamic Drag Force, Hill Climbing Force, Acceleration Force.
