Flow over a cylinder

FLOW SIMULATION OVER A CYLINDER

AIM : To study the external flow simulation over a cylinder.

INTRODUCTION : Potential flow around the cylinder is the solution for the flow of compressible ,inviscid fluid around the cylinder that is transverse to the flow, the flow is unidirectional and uniform. It is irrotataional

BASIC PROCEDURE :

Firstly we modelled the cylinder and provided input parameters through the wizard, such as time dependency, external flow ,velocity in x direction (10,12,14,16,20m/s) and air as the fluid. After displaying the basic mesh we ran the simulation.

RESULTS AND PLOTS:

We then plotted flow patterns for velocity and pressure contours for different Reynolds number which is as shown below.

PRESSURE AND VELOCITY CONTOURS

1. Default Reynolds number (v = 10m/s)

2. For 10% increment in Reynolds number (v = 12m/s)

3. For 20% increment in Reynolds number (v = 14m/s)

4.For 100% increment in Reynolds number (v = 20m/s)

CONCLUSION :

As other parameters such as density ,diameter and dynamic viscosity are constant,so as velocity changes Reynolds number also changes Linearly. Thus the contours changes according which we can see from the above images
