Final Project: Electric Rickshaw modelling

Create a detailed MATLAB model of an electric rickshaw (three wheel passenger vehicle)

AIM ;

Design of electric rickshaw using MATLAB and Simulink

Objectives;

  • For any three standard driving cycles show energy consumption, temperature rise of motor and controller
  • For 100 km constant speed driving at 45 kmph.

Vehicle parameters:

width=1350mm

Height=1750mm

Frontal area=2.3625m^2

Kerb weight=377 kg

Gradeability=12.7

Battery capacity=37 kwh

voltage=60 v

Gear ratio=5

tyre radius=0.3048m

Block diagram:

This model consist of UDDS, HWFET drive cycle and WOT cycle, PID controller, H-bridge, permanent magnet DC motor, Li-ion battery, gear box.

Drive cycles are derived by signal builder block which are connected to multiport switch here we can switch to desired cycles

This is an UDDS drive cycle data which is imported from Excel sheet

Wide open throttle

Next the PID is connected to saturation block where the limits are minimized from -0.5 to 0.5. where the acceleration is fed to controlled PWM voltage block creates a pulse width modulated voltage across the PWM and REF ports. the output voltage is zero when the pulse is low, and is equal to the output voltage amplitude parameter when high.

From the thermal port we can connect the temperature sensor to check the temperature of power controller.

current sensor is connected across controller and motor to monitor the amount current drawn by the motor.

Through controlled current source li-ion battery is connected.so that SOC, current and voltage are determined.

Terminals from the H-bridge is connected to the permanent magnet brished motor which is connected to gear box through ideal torque sensor here we can sense the torque from the DC motor. after gearbox we connect the driving axle through another ideal torque sensor. there also ideal rotational motion sensor for sensing the motor RPM.

Both H-bridge and motor are enabled thermal port, where the temperature sensor connected for sensing the motor temperature and controller temperature.

Gear box is connected to the driving axle, where the tyres are mounted there are three tyres for this vehicle and those tyres are connected to vehicle body, here we can get the output of vehicle speed.
