FINAL INDEPENDENT PROJECT

heavy vehicle drag force

Aim : Model the flow over a air in the heavy vehicle for the angle of attack 55,50,45,40,35 Compare drag force.

Introduction: this project is give the result of drag force in the wind-shield-angle against to air flow .In our country I observe that many of heavy vehicles like trucks and buses are not design with the sense of aerodynamic and that are result is fuel consumption so in that simulation I try to observe that how much drag force is produce in the different angle of wind-shield may be I am not correct I try to simulate.

Procedure : in this process I create 3D model of front of heavy vehicle and the dimensions are take approx. randomly because our moto is to simulate drag against the wind shield angle.

After that I start flow simulation

create wizard for external simulation and use time dependent

use air as fluid flow 80 m/s in x direction.

remain use default

convert computational domain in 2D and adjust according to flow.

use global goal (Normal force in (X)) direction and friction force in (x) direction.

also use surface goal for friction forces in (x) and (y) direction.

use basic and local mesh in the surface.

and the RUN the program.

after completion calculation over result is obtained in result column.

add cut plot for velocity and arrange colour bar for 200 shades of colour.

now we have obtained simulation result for drag force with different colour range.

Conclusion:

With the help of SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation, successful analysis of the vehicle wind shield has been carried at various angles of attack (55,50,45,40,35 degrees) and following observation has been made.

  • With the decreasing in angle of attack, drag force value will decrees.
