Photo-Realistic Rendering of the Yacht
Title :- Designing, Modeling, Assembly and Photo-Realistic Rendering of the Yacht.
Objective :- To design the 3D model of the Yacht using SolidWorks.
Introduction:-

A blueprint is a reproduction of a technical drawing using a contact print process on light-sensitive sheets. Introduced by Sir John Herchel in 1842, the process allowed rapid and accurate production of unlimited copies. It was widely used for over a century for the reproduction of specification drawings used in construction and industry.
A design blueprint is a high-level plan that guides collaborators through the process of designing and contributing to the development of an open course. Its purpose is to visualize the overall “architecture” of the course to guide the design, development, and cooperation process.
To design and model the yacht we need some kind of reference. that reference may be in form of some concept sketches or the desired views of the product from all the sides (viz. Front view, side view, top view, bottom view, back view). We did the same, we set up blueprints of desired views of a yacht in the Solidworks environment and align each view in proportion to each other. Then we used this blueprint set up as a reference to design all the parts or bodies of the yacht accordingly. We insert the blueprint views in as a sketch and set up it in the proper position.

2) Modeling of Propeller :-
A propeller is a device with a rotating hub and radiating blades that are set at a pitch to form a helical spiral, that, when rotated, performs an action that is similar to Archimedes' screw. It transforms rotational power into linear thrust by acting upon a working fluid, such as water or air. Propeller is a rotary part of the yacht which is connected to the backside of hull.
In propeller I have used following features.
Revolve :- It is used to rotate the closed 2D sketch about a central axis.
Cut extrude :- It is used to cut the extruded part. In this part, this feature is used to make a hole over the revolved part.
Loft :– It is used to create vanes of the propeller.
Circular pattern :– It is used to copy the pattern in a circular path.
Fillet :– It is used to give the rounded shape to all the corners.

3) Modeling of Radar :-
Radar is a solid body, which is also a rotary part of the yacht. Radar is a detection system that uses radio waves to determine the range, angle, or velocity of objects. It can be used to detect aircraft, ships, spacecraft, guided missiles, motor vehicles, weather information, and terrain. A radar system consists of a transmitter producing electromagnetic waves in the radio or microwaves domain, a transmitting antenna, a receiving antenna (often the same antenna is used for transmitting and receiving), and a receiver and processor to determine the properties of the objects). Radio waves (pulsed or continuous) from the transmitter reflect off the object and return to the receiver, giving information about the object's location and speed.
In this part following features are used:
Boss extrude :- It is used to extrude the closed 2D sketch upto desirable height.
Cut extrude :– It is used to cut the extruded part to make hole or cut the undesirable part.
Fillet :– It is used to give the rounded shape to the corners & edges with a required radius.
Sketch pattern :– It is used to pattern features aver a sketched point.
Mirror :– It is used to mirror the body by giving the mirror face as reference.
Spit line :– It is used to cut the face into parts. In radar, this feature is used to print the text over it.
Text :– It is a 3D text to be printed over the radar, using split line command.

4) Modeling of the Hull :-
A hull is the watertight body of a ship or boat. The hull may open at the top or it may be fully or partially covered with a deck. At top the deck may be a deckhouse and other superstructures, such as a funnel, derrick, or mast.
Hull is the base part of yacht. It consists of various surface features which helps in designing the complex shapes of this part. Using merge & knitted option the whole surface part then converted into solid. These are the following surface commands, used in this part:

9) Final Assembly Model of the Yacht :-
After designing and modeling of all the components of Yacht, we call each part individually in the assembly environment. We first call the hull of the yacht and makes it fixed. Then other components are inserted and proper mates are applied. These mates provide all the parts a constrained motion according to their behaviour. The mates which are used in this assembly to combine all the parts are as follows:
Coincident mate – used to give a constrained reciprocating motion to the part
Concentric mate – used to aline the parts in one direction.
Angle mate - used to give a rotary motion to the parts about an axis or plane.
Hinge mate – used to provide the hinge on garage door part.
Tangent mate – used to give a constrained motion to the radar.

Photo-Realistic Rendering :-
The rendering is done using photoview 360, which gives the aesthetic look to the yacht. The following steps are taken to render the yacht assembly:
- At first switch on the photoview 360 option, Tools -> add-in-> photoview 360
- Then go to render tool option. In this section, all option is available to set the rendering.
- Set yacht assembly in a perspective view.
- Add camera to setup the view at an angle.
- Add lights, to get appropriate brightness over the assembly.
- Add background scene & environment scene to give the assembly an outstanding background.
- Click on option from render tool, tool bar to set the size of the window.
- Then, Preview window option is used to create a preview image of the setup.
- After that final render is done using final render option given in render tool, tool bar.
- After getting desirable look to the assembly, click on save image option to save the image.
Here are some rendered images, which I have created using ‘Photoview 360’:
Similarly I have used Solidworks visualize and edited background of the Yatch by using backplate option and then performed the rendering.
