FINAL INDEPENDENT PROJECT
CAD Model
V10 ENGINE

Objectives
- To learn the SolidWorks various command and features.
- To create 3D model for the purpose of different analysis.
- To modify or improve the existing design with ease.
- To visualize the working animation and hidden movement to understand the working concept better.
Introduction to Engine
- Internal combustion engines have excellent drivability and reliability.
- We can also use renewable or synthetic fuels (e.g., natural gas, propane, biodiesel, or ethanol) together with gasoline or diesel.
- They can also be paired with hybrid powertrains to improve fuel efficiency.

Working Concept
- Combustion is the basic chemical method of releasing energy from a combination of fuel and air, also known as burning.
- The ignition and combustion of the fuel occurs within the engine itself in an internal combustion engine (ICE). The engine then uses the fuel to work partly from the combustion.
- The engine consists of a rotating piston and a fixed cylinder. Basically, this movement pushes the wheels of the vehicle through a series of gears in the powertrain.

CLassification
- Reciprocating Engine:
- Single Cylinder Engine
- Multi-Cylinder Engine
- Multi-Cylinder Engine
- In line reciprocating engine
- V Engine
- Radial Engine
- Opposed Cylinder Engine
- Opposed Piston Engine

Assembly Level
- Assembly levels of V10 engine was kept pretty simple the whole assembly levels where divided into various sub-assemblies.
- Piston – connecting rod Sub-assembly
- Rocker Arm Sub-assembly
- To start the motion of the engine of the engine assembly the following mechanism constraint was applied to different parts.
- Motor mechanism is applied to the crankshaft
- Cam mechanism is applied to inlet and the outlet cams.
- Belt mechanism is applied to the pulley that has been connected to the camshaft.
Design Approach
- The cubic capacity of the engine was decided by multiplying the dimension of v6 engine by 1.5. And the cubic capacity of the cylinder comes out to be 5102cc and the net cubic capacity of the engine comes out to be 51200cc.
- The shape of the block was re-engineered with the help of various pictures and the video used for approaching a robust design.
- During the assembly most of the parts were directly mounted on the engine block sub- assembly.
- The design has been iterated many times to get the final assembly. The problems has been faced in the mating of the parts.
- Due to the V10 design the pattern and the symmetry of the various parts were lost as the dimensions were 1.5 time of that of V6 engine.

Finite Element Analysis
- Finite element analysis was performed on the piston of the cylinder under the static condition.
- Pressure value of 1500 psi on the piston head of the cylinder during full throttle condition.
- The green arrow shown in the figure gives you an idea about the fixture section of analysis part.
- This finite element analysis is done on the solidworks.

Displacement
- The displacement analysis is done under the category of static analysis in simulation.
- As the dimension of the piston assembly is 1.5 times the dimension of a V6 engine. As a result of which the load bearing capacity has been drastically increased

Stress
- In this study the pin was given a connection the piston head was applied a normal pressure and the rob cap is assigned with the fixture.
- Due to the dimension of the piston assembly i.e. 1.5 times of the V6 engine the stress bearing capacity of the piston assembly has been drastically increased and it can bear more stress
