Challenge

Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

1. Wheel Arch

a)Wheel Arch is the semi-circular part of the fender positioned above the wheel of the vehicle.

b)The design of Wheel arch of a fender should be such that it must shield wheels and protect both passengers’ compartment and pedestrians from projection of water, mud and stones.

2. Objective of the Wheel Arch Challenge:

The objective of the wheel arch challenge is to calculate the wheel arch area and to prove whether the given fender of car will pass the European standards or not.

to calculate the wheel arc we need to known the standars following in different countries

1. Japan Standard

For japan standard shown below in the fig. Based on the this capital L should be greater then 5mm

2. European Standard

For japan standard shown below in the fig. Based on the this capital L should be then 10mm

3. US Standard

For US standard shown below in the fig. Based on the this capital L should be then 5 mm

Now we check our fender meets for european standard

1. So that we the 30degree , 50 degree and the 150 mm offset line in the fender drawing as shown in the fig.

2. We done 2D project the curve on the plane, to create the points

3. Afterwards we project that point into the fender face ( 3D project curve ) to find the L distance

After Projecting we can now easily find the L distance to check weather the wheel arc meets the european standard or Not

Below image shows the value of each points SA, SB, SC, SD, SE

1. SA Value= 10.00mm

2.Sb Value = 9.94mm

3. SC Value = 0.113 mm

4. SD Value = 2.88mm

5. SE Value = 5.99 mm

SECTION VALUE REMARKS
SA 10 MM PASS
SB 9.94 MM FAIL
SC 0.113 MM FAIL
SD 2.88 MM FAIL
SE 5.99 MM FAIL

Based on the above result we conclude this fender not suit for the European Standard.
