Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
WHEEL ARC
Wheel Arch is the semi-circular part of the fender positioned above the wheel of the vehicle. The design of Wheel arch of a fender should be such that it must shield wheels and protect both passenger’s compartment and pedestrians from projection of water, mud and stones. Each and every car has use permit in different countries, the wheel arch of fenders must be compliant with the standards and regulations set by the respective countries.
The European regulations requires a pre-determined clearance or a minimum distance of 10mm to be maintained between the fender and respective tyre at particular point, along tyre.
OBJECTIVE:
- Create the intersection point according to given degree angle.
- Follow the European standards to prove the design is valid.
- Tabulate the result to conclude the final result.
DESIGN CRETERIA:
- first create a plane with origin as centre of the wheel plane.
- Then sketch using lines along with given dimensions as SA, SB, SC, SD and SE
- After sketching project, the intersection points on to the fender
- Then use measure distance tool and calculate the clearance between sketch lines and wheel arc.
THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN SA LINE AND WHEEL ARC:
The clearance between SA line and wheel arc is 9.9833mm and also the line SA lies outside the fender so it is negative value.
THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN SB LINE AND WHEEL ARC:
The clearance between SB line and wheel arc is 10.00mm and also the line SB lies inside the fender so it is positive value.
THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN SC LINE AND WHEEL ARC:
The clearance between SC line and wheel arc is 0.559537mm and also the line SA lies outside the fender so it is negative value.
THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN SD LINE AND WHEEL ARC:
The clearance between SD line and wheel arc is 1.4559mm and also the line SA lies outside the fender so it is negative value.
THE CLEARANCE BETWEEN SE LINE AND WHEEL ARC:
The clearance between SE line and wheel arc is 5.9756mm and also the line SA lies outside the fender so it is negative value.
