Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Fender definition:
the fender is called the wing. This may refer to either the front or rear fenders. However, in modern unibody vehicles, rear fenders may also be called quarter panels. The guard over the wheel of a motor vehicle of locomotives and streetcars to lessen injury to animals or pedestrians in case of collision.
Full Bumber Type:
The full bumper type fender was used in old cars. It has lot of sheet metal material which is unnecessary and increases the weight of the fender.
Half Bumber Type:
It covers less area and consumes less material. In this method a single sheet can be produce more than one fender
Wheel arch area
The wheel arch is the semi circular part on fender above the wheel.
Japan standard:
The Japanese Standard requires the distance between the wheel and fender to be a minimum of 5mm at 3 points.
Europe standard:
The value will be more than 10mm at 30 degree at forward and 50 degree at backward and line 150mm above x-axis and mid point between 50 degree and line above 150mm.
American Standard:
The fender to be at a minimum distance of 10mm from the outer surface of the wheel at points at every 10 degrees from the -20degrees to 180degrees of the wheel center.
Wheel arc Calculation for European Standard

Conclusion:
Thus the design did not pass the european standard. So this design is sent to styling team for modified as per the european standard.
