Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

REPORT-
- WHEEL ARCH-The wheel arch is the semicircular part positioned above the wheel of a vehicle. The most important body change was that the front wheel arch was cut higher into the fender. Corrosion had occurred around the splash plate at the back of the wheel arch. The wheel arch should be design sch that the wheel is covered totaly by the fender and the projection from the muds, stones, water is not occured.

- WHEEL ARCH STANDARDS-
- JAPANESE STANDARD-In japan the density of people is less and according to the road condition the gap between the the tire and fender is min 5mm is considered.
In the above picture 'L' is the gap between the tire and the fender, and should be min 5mm. - US STANDARD- For US standard it is the same as JAPAN. And the gap should min of 5mm, though in US the gap is between 5-10 mm.
- EUROPEAN STANDARD-European standard is something different. In Europe the population density is more than Japan, US. So as the European standard the gap between the tire and the fender should be min of 10 mm even 9.9 is not be considered.
In the above image that is how I am gonna measure the gaps, and the wheel arch.
In the fig. the gap (l) is shown in the above.
In India Euoropean standard is followed because of high density of crowd and road condition.
- JAPANESE STANDARD-In japan the density of people is less and according to the road condition the gap between the the tire and fender is min 5mm is considered.
- METHODOLOGY-
- Firstly I created the the the points on the tire section using the European standard measuring method.
- then I projected the points on the fender.
- then I measured the gaps between the points.
- RESULTS-
- The first I measured in the SB section, which is in the vertical of the centre of the wheel. And the gap(L) is 10.00 mm.

- Secondly I measured on the SB, which is 30 degree left from the centre. And the gap(L) is 9.9490, which is not acceptable.

- Third one is on the SC point, which is 50 degree apart from the centre. At this point the gap(L) is 0.113949 which is negative, means at this poin the wheel is getting outside from the fender.

- Fourth is at the SD point, which is in the middle of SC and SE. At this point the gap(L) is 2.8875mm which is also negative.

- At last I measured for the last point which is SE here. And the gap(L) is here 5.9973 mm which is also negative one.

- RESULTS TABLE- Only on the sction SB the cleareance is passed, and on the other ponts the gap should be modified.

- The first I measured in the SB section, which is in the vertical of the centre of the wheel. And the gap(L) is 10.00 mm.
- CONCLUSION-From the above result obtained, I conclude that the given wheel ans fender is not passed te european standard for the WHEEL ARC AREA.
- Suggestion for the Styling team- The Styling team must modifi the fender surface. In the SA point the wheel arc area should be increased, And on the SC, SD, SE where the value is negative means the wheel is outside from the fender, it should be inside the fender and manitain min of 10 mm of gap.
