Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

FENDER DESING-WHEEL ARCH CHALLENGE

Aim:

To decide whether the given design passes the European standards or not. Measure the distance the points on the wheel circle and fender curve. All of these should be greater than 10mm to satsify the European regs.

Objective:

Fender is a part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well the fender underside. its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fender are typically rigid and can be damaged by contatct with the road surface of 50 degrees lines and the lines made on the 150mm point.

Introduction:

Take it the Outline of the wheel and the fender. make the centre of the wheel circle. Draw linesat 30 degrees and 50 degrees from the horizontal. The main purpose of fenders on cars is that they shield the wheel and they protect the passengers the pedestrains,and the other vehicles from stones, mud, liquid, and other debris that can fly in the air because of the speeding rotating wheels while the car is running the fender positioned right above the wheel. water rocks and other road spray.

Fender Wheel Arch:

It is Different countries have different wheel arch regulation in place, and the wheel arch desing has to comply with them to be deemed usable in that country. For avoiding desing alterations of the same vehicle to meet the different regulations in different countries, the maximum values of the concerned regulation parameters are taken into consideration for desing purpose.

Fender Wheel Arch Regulations:

Japan Regulations

* The Clerance 'L' for tire, hub, cap and fender is to be measured with in area K and create clerance check chart to validate.The value of L should be greater than 5mm at all positions.

* wheel guard requirement The value of ' a ' should be more than 5mm at lines 30 forward amd 50 reawards from the central v ertical axis of the wheel.

European Regulations:

* The clearance 'L' should be measuerd at sections SA-SA, SB-SB, SC-SC, SD-SD AND SE-SE and create clearance check chart to validate.

* At all the five sections the value of L should be greater than 10mm to satisfy the European Regulations.

* wheel guard requirement: the value of ' a ' should be more than 5mm at line 30 degree forward and 50 degree rearwards from the central vertical axis of the Wheel.

US Regulations:

* Clearance 'L' is to be checked at all position from -100 degree to 100 degree and create clearance check chart to validate.

* The value of L should be greater than 5mm to satisfy the regulations. wheel guard requirement: the value of 'a be more than 5mm at line 30 degree forward and 50 degree reawards fromn the central vertical axis of the wheel.

Calculation Of Wheel Arch Area According to European Regulations:

Measure the distances between the points on the wheel circle and fender curve. All of these should be greater than 10mm to satisfy the european regs. secondly the horizontal distances from SA, SB, AND SC Points to be at atleast 5mm. check whether the desing passes these conditions and conclude whether it can pass the European Regulations Reqiurement.

Challenge:

sketch has been made.

The measure these distance betwwen the points at the 5 section.

A datum plane is created at the outermost face of the wheel. The sketch is created on the new Datum plane.

A horizontal line is drawn across the centre of the wheel. Another line SD is drawn from the centre of the wheel and in the middle of lines SC and SE.

SKETCH:

Obtaining the Clearance L at The designated 5 points:

The clearance distance 'L' is calculated at points SA-SA,SB-SB,SC-SC,SD-SD and SE-SE, Which should be greater than or equal to 10mm.

* Clearance 'L' at SA-SA

L=9.95MM

* Clearance 'L' at SB-SB

L=10.00MM

* Clearance 'L' at SC-SC

L=0.00MM

* Clearance 'L' at SD-SD

L=-0.96MM

* Clearance 'L' at SA-SA

MEASURE THE VALUE 'a' FOR WHEEL GUARD REQIUREMENT:

> Clearance 'a' at 30 degree line SB

a=43.36mm

> Clearance 'a' at 50degree lines SC

a=38.25mm

Conclution:

Above the results we can results we can conclude that the fender does not pass the European Regulation as the minimum clearance L betwwen the fender wheel Arch and this desing does not meet the requirement. It is a Curved part of the Fender positioned right above the Wheel. deemed usable in that country.
