Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

wheel arch:

A wheel arch is an arch-shaped cavity in the body of a vehicle, which houses a wheel. It also provides spacing for the wheel movement while turning and while up and down movement of the suspension. While designing wheel arc the important thing to be considered is the regulations that are imposed on the manufacturer by the government. Three of these regulations are European, US and Japanese. These regulations require a certain amount of spacing between the wheel edge and the edge of the fender for the design to pass.

EUROPEAN REGULATION:

Measure CL L at sections SA-SA SB-SB SC-SC SD-SD SE-SE and produce CL check chart to validate.
In all five sections, the CL L value should be greater than 10 mm to satisfy the European regulations.

Wheel guard requirement:

The value of 'a' shall be more than 5 mm at line 30* forward and 50* rearward from the central vertical axis of the wheel.

JAPANESE REGULATIONS:

Measure clearance L of tire, hub, cap & fender in three different positions within area K and produce a clearance check chart to validate
Clearance must be greater than 5 mm in all three positions.

Wheel guard requirement,

The value of 'a' shall be more than 5 mm at line 30* forward and 50* rearward from the central vertical axis of the wheel.

US REGULATIONS:

Make clearance check details on all positions from -100* to 100* & make the clearance check table.
All values should be greater than 5 mm to satisfy the regulations.
The value of 'a' shall be more than 5 mm at line 30* forward and 50* rearward from the central vertical axis of the wheel.

For the given challenge we take the European regulations,

SB:

SA:

SC:

SD:

SE:

Positions SB SA SC SD SE
Distance in mm 10 9.49 0.113 3.385 7.105
RESULT PASS FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL

Conclusion:

With the value calculated from measurement the given fender design does not pass the European regulations
