Challenge

Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

  • WHEEL ARCH

AIM:

To calculate wheel arch and prove whether given model pass to the European standard or not.

DESCRIPTION:

The wheel arch is the semi-circular part positioned above the wheel of a vehicle. The most important body change was that the front wheel arch was cut higher into the fender. Corrosion had occurred around the splash plate at the back of the wheel arch.

EUROPEAN STANDARDS:

CONSTRUCTION:

  • Created a datum plane at a distance from main axis.
  • Sketch is created on the plane with respective to European standards we discussed above by using our surface.
  • Create a line and constrain it as per the norms and project the curve from the fender surface near to the tyre.
  • Now select the point option and intersect with those curve and line. We can get some points over there.
  • Then projected the curve to fender face and measure the distance and compared with European Standards. The report is given below.

Sa - SA:

Clearance value between Sa -SA is 9.9490 < 10 mm so it is failed.

Sb - SB:

Clearance value between Sb -SB is 10 = 10 mm so it is Passed

Sc - SC:

Clearance value between Sc -SC is 3.45 < 10 mm so it is Failed

Sd - SD:

Clearance value between Sd -SD is -2.318 < 10 mm so it is Failed

Se - SE:

Clearance value between Se -SE is -9.91 < 10 mm so it is Failed

CONCLUSION:

I have measured the clearance value at 5 different points, one point among all the 5 points for edge to guard & Two points are satisfied for wheel guard clearance satisfies the standard as we can see from the table before this styling surface is failed to satisfy the European regulations hence, we have to modify the clearance as per the EUROPEAN STANDARD.
