Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge

Objective:

To use the European standards rules to figure out the wheel arc for a given Fender model.

Introduction:

For the design of the wing to meet local regulations, which are based on how the roads are in the area, the wheel arc must be calculated.

The wheel well is in the semicircular area of the wing called the "wheel arch." It should have enough room between the tyre and the wheel arch. So that it doesn't touch the area around the wheel arches when the suspension moves. The clearance value is different in each region, and there are only a few rules.

Japan Regulation Standard:

At 30 degrees forward and 50 degrees back from the vertical centre line, the clearance value will be more than 5mm.

Standard of the European Regulation:

The clearance value will be more than 10mm at 30 degrees at forward and 50 degree at backward and line 150mm above X-axis and Mid-point between 50 degree and line above 150mm.

Standard for US Law:

Make sure all positions from -10 to 180 degrees are clear and check the details for each one. All values must be more than 5mm. The Clearance Value will be more than 5mm at lines 30 degrees forward and 50 degrees back from the vertical centre axis.

How to Figure Out Wheel Arc

This is done to make sure that pedestrians are safe around the car. In this case, the design is based on what the European regulations require.

So that the coordinates can be plotted,

Figure 4 shows how the plane's checkpoint was marked.

In figure 4, the coordinates SB, SB, SC, SD, and SE are plotted using the angles and sizes that meet the standard requirements.

Next, the points are checked to see if there is a gap of at least 10mm between the outermost part of the wing and the outermost part of the tier. If the gap is more than 10mm, the safety standard is met; if it is less than 10mm, the standard is not met.

Figure 5: Extending the law by 10 mm towards the wing

Figure 5 shows that the law's extension of 10 mm towards the wing has been done. We can see that SA and SB have more than 10 mm of clearance, while the other check points don't meet the standard.

The following is shown in the picture above:

SB plot meets the 10mm requirement.
SA plot meets the 10mm requirement.
SC plot doesn't meet the standard because there is a 3mm gap, which isn't right.
SD plot doesn't meet the standard because there is a 0.25mm gap, which isn't right.
SE Plot doesn't work because it has a clearance of -3.4mm, which isn't up to standard.

Conclusion:
Since the next wing wouldn't meet the standards, we can say that the styling team needs to redesign the wing.
