Fender Design - Wheel Arch Challenge
Fender Design - Wheel Arch
Objective: To calculate wheel arch and prrove whether given model is satisifing the Europen standards or not.
Introduction
The wheel arch, a semicircular portion above the tyre that helps keep debris out of the engine bay. Moreover, the wheel arch shields pedestrians and anyone within the vehicle.

In the above fig, the letter L stands for the distance between the wheel guard and tyre edge. Ideally, there should be a minimum gap of 10mm or more.
At SB-Sb and SC-Sc, the value of a must be bigger than 5 mm.
Procedure:
- Create a plane at top surface of the wheel
- Draw a line as shown in the above fig, at a given angles.
- project the outer most edge into the sketch.
- create an intersecting points btween the line and edge.
- Project all the points on to the fender surface so we can measure the distance between the points.

Table for the distance "L" (refer the above figs.)
| FIG. | Clearence value | Measured | Pass/Fail |
| 1 | 10mm | 10mm | Pass |
| 2 | 10mm | 9.9490mm | Fail |
| 3 | 10mm | 0.113949mm | Fail |
| 4 | 10mm | 2.8875mm | Fail |
| 5 | 10mm | 5.9973mm | Fail |
Table for the distance "a" (refer the above figs.)
| FIG. | Clearence value | Measured | Pass/Fail |
| 1 | 5mm | 43.6363mm | Pass |
| 2 | 5mm | 38.3599mm | Pass |
Conclusion:
As per the European standards it as to clear all the requirements, The distance 'L' is not clearing the required value i.e 10mm and as per the distance 'a' is clearing the required value i.e 5mm and overall it is not clearing as per the European standards.
