Fender Design Challenge
Project Title :- Fender Design
Objective :- This Project is to design the BIW of front fender using the fender skin data & master section as the into data by using in Catia.
Introduction:-
Fender is the American term for the part an automobile, other vehicel body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.
Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth outer tire surface, while smooth loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These materials can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can throw objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.
Type of Fender:-
There are two type of fenders:-
- Full Bumper Type
- Half Bumper Type
Full Bumper Type This type of Fender is not commonly used because this design is more scrap & wastage producing during manufacturing. This type is not economically good to manufacture.

Half Bumper Type This type of Fender is most commonly used because this design is reduced scrap & wastage producing during manufacturing. This part is drastically reduced by scrap management.

Purpose of Fender
The fenders on your car protect your car from road debris as you drive. They also cover other vehicles on the road from that same debris. When tires rotate, they pick up things like loose rock, mud, and dirt along the roadway. That debris can get stuck in the tires and flung across the road.
At high speeds, loose rocks can do severe damage to your vehicle or other vehicles that are on the road. Car fenders protect you and other cars from this damage.
Mounting :-
There are most 5 mounting area in fender :-
- Drip Area
- Sill Mount
- Bumper Mount
- A pillar Mount
- Splash/Baffle Mount
Design of Drip Mount Area :-
Master Section Fellow & Created Drip Design

SKin Data

From the master section we have optimize value for draft ,drawing & assembly point to view such as distance from the engine comportment is 10mm height of fender etc.
Design Criteria
. Emboss are provided to increase the strength.
. Ribs are provided to drip area mount to give structual support & extra strength.
. Thickness of fender is 0.65 mm
