Design of Car Front fender

Fenders/ Quarter Panel:-

Fender is a word derived from the American English. Automobile fender is a rigid vehicle panel that houses the wheel well. It forms an arch that is designed to protect the wheel and prevent road debris such as rocks, sand, and mud from being thrown into the air by the spinning tire. A pair of front and rear fenders can be found on each side of a vehicle.

Aside from keeping your vehicle clean, car fenders protect vital components from minor collisions. They also help define the car's overall style and design. They provide classy contours that give your car a classy, edgy look, especially when your vehicle is viewed from the side. They also help improve your car's aerodynamics, so your car is not only cleaner but also faster.

In British English, the fender is called the wing (this may refer to either the front or rear fenders. However, in modern unibody vehicles, rear fenders may also be called quarter panels.) The equivalent component of a bicycle or motorcycle, or the "cycle wing" style of wing fitted to vintage cars, or over tires on lorries which is not integral with the bodywork, is called a mudguard in Britain, as it guards other road users – and in the case of a bicycle or motorcycle, the rider as well – from mud, and spray, thrown up by the wheels.

The standards for designing the Front fender are as follows:

Fenders are of two types:-

  • Full Bumper Type
  • Half Bumper Type

Various provisions provided to the fender are listed and shown below:

  • Drip area
  • Pillar mounting
  • Bumper Mounting
  • Splash cover mounting
  • Sill mount region

1)Asthetic View of Fender:

2.1) Drip Area:

where the total fneder is regidly fixed to the main frame of the automotive and the dtails are shown below

2.2) Bumper Mount:-

one end of the fender is regidly fixed to Bumper with the screw joint as shown below

2.3) A-Pillar Mount:

Here the door frame and the fender frame join together

2.4) Splash Cover:

This arrangement is made to hols the mud resisting cover to be fixed over the wheel to restrict foreign material entering into the engine compatment.

2.5) Sill mount:

This is provided to fix the other end of the fender to the suppoting frame by this the fender will be tightly held by the frame.

thus the design of fender is made using the automotive design standards.
