Fender Design Challenge
FENDER
Fender is the part of automobile, motor cycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged bu contact with the road surface.

Sticky materials, such as mud, may adhere to the smooth tire outer surface, while loose objects, such as stones, can become temporarily embedded in the tread grooves as the tire rolls over the ground. These material can be ejected from the surface of the tire at high velocity as the tire imparts kinetic energy to the attached objects. For a vehicle moving forward, the top of the tire is rotating upward and forward, and can through objects into the air at other vehicles or pedestrians in front of the vehicle.

TYPES OF FENDER
1.Full Bumper Type:- 2. Half Bumper Type:

From single blank of metal only one full bumper can be manufactured, at a same time we can produce two half type bumper can be made using single blank. Weight also drastically reduced and performance will be increased.
FENDER DESIGN
The fender has 5 important region.
(1) Body:-
It is the front part of the fender which houses other components. It is the largest part of the body
(2) A-Pillar mounting area-
Pillars are vertical support on a vehicle. They are located around all the glass on an automobile. They are important for holding glass in place and adding structural integrity to a vehicle and also connected to the body side of the vehicle.

(3) Sill mounting area-
This area links the fender with the sill (underside of the door) of the car. Bolts are used to fix the fender.

(4) Bumper mounting region –
This connects the fender with the front bumper of the car.

(5) Drip Area:–
This is the most important region in the fender design. As there are few standards set to design the drip area as connects the fender with the engine compartment.

(6) Splash cover mount:-
This helps uniform holding of the fender which also connects the baffle, a plastic part added to the sheet metal fender which reduces the overall cost & weight of the fender.
