Fender Design Challenge

                             FENDER DESIGN

OBJECTIVE

Follow the given Master section to create the Drip Area

For the Sill mount, Bumper Mount and A-Pillar mount create your own design according to the Engineering standard that you learned in the class.

Submit your Models in IGS format and part files.

Prepare  roper report with all the relevant images included for the mounting points created

INTRODUCTION

Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside).

Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire.

Fenders are panels on a car that are located on the sides of the car in front of the doors. They serve a number of functions, not least of which is aesthetic.

One of the primary functions of a fender is to keep dirt, dust, and road debris away from the wheel and front braking system.

Many have small flaps or wings that are designed to enhance this protective function. The fender will also help to keep debris off of the rest of the car as well, which be useful when a car throws up a rock or stick from the road.

Depending on the design, fenders can also act to make a car more aerodynamic.

Many sports cars have very sleek fenders for this reason, and they may have additional features such as grooves or grillwork which are designed to enhance the car's performance at high speed.

The other function of fenders is of course aesthetic. Most people do not want to look at the framework of a car, and the panels cover the frame and the sides of the engine block.

In current US auto industry nomenclature, usually only the panels over the front wheels are called fenders. The auto industry changed from rear fenders bolted onto aquarter panel to an enlarged welded-on quarter panel that fulfilled both functions. This resulted in one piece where there had previously been two, and name of the larger welded piece, the quarter panel, survived the consolidation. Quarter panels are at the rear, with an exception made for dual rear wheel trucks, where the panel at the rear is called a fender.

For vehicles with a narrow car body that exposes the tire, the fender is an exposed curve over the top of the tire. For wide body vehicles that cover the tire, the fender forms the wheel well surrounding the tire, and is not directly visible from above the car body.

The fender's openings for the wheel wells tend to be much larger than the diameter of the tire, because they do not move with the tire suspension and consequently must be large enough to allow the full range of tire motion on the suspension without touching the interior of the wheel well.

There are 5 mounting points in fender

Fastners are used to connect all the mountings

Now In this challenge we are going to create drip area using master section .Others on our own design

The fender skin data is given as the input.
