Fender Design
Fender :
A car fender is a crucial component of a vehicle's exterior body paneling. It is typically located above the wheel well and covers the area between the vehicle's hood and door, extending to the rear portion of the car. The fender serves multiple purposes, including protecting the wheel well and the sides of the vehicle from debris, rocks, and road spray.
Fender Mountings
- A-Pillar
- Sill
- Bumper
- Drip
- Baffle
1)A-Pillar Mount : The Mounting supports the A-Pillar of Car BiW. The mounting should be constructed such that it can have a flat surface of 5mm about its hole so that the fastners can sit properly.
2) Sill Mount: Sill Mount is used to give ground support to the fender. The sill mount can be perpendicular to the surface (lke in the below image) or along the surface. It varies from company to company and also from product to product. Again, A 5 mm flat surface is required for bolting.
3) Bumper Mount: The bumper mount holds the bumper in-place. Numbers of holes can be increased depending on bumper weight, mounting locations etc. Beads & Darts can be provided to insure the rigidity of the mounting sheet.
4) Drip Area Mount : It is the most crucial mount in Fender design. Since the mount is extended inside engine compartment, many crieteria like clearance from the engine, offset distance from the headlight & cowl (wiper area), tooling workability, rigidity etc should be considered while designing it. The below attached image represents a typical fender drip area design.
5) Baffle Mount : The mounting covers the Wheel Arch Area and supports the baffle. Push Clips are generally used to mount baffle. Baffle used to protect car from splashes of water, chemicals & other fluids present on road. It also prevents the car body from stones, scratches, dents etc.
