Fender Design

Introduction:

Getting to know Fender:

The fender is the part of a car's body that goes around the wheel and over the engine.
The wing is designed so that it will protect pedestrians from the engine compartment's high impact.
The fender is also the cover that hides the ugly parts of the engine compartment so that the customer doesn't have to see them.
It is made of rubber or a softer material so that it doesn't hurt pedestrians as much when it hits them.
There are two kinds of Fender parts:
Full Bumper Type
Type Half Bumper

In the past, full bumper-type fenders were used, but most cars now use half-type fenders to cut down on waste.

There are five places to mount:

  1. A-Pillar Mounting
  2. Body Mounting
  3. Sill Mounting
  4. Bumper Mounting
  5. Drip Mounting

Design Methodology:

Master Section to make the mounting for the drip area:

Mounting on The Drip Area

It is the important part of the fender that holds it in place. It is connected to the engine compartment, so when designing the wing, there are a lot of rules that must be followed.

When we first design the drip area, we have to leave 200–300 mm for the cowl top.
When making the front wing, we have to leave at least 150 mm at the front for where the headlight will go.
The PF wiper motor and its tools are on the top of the cover.
On the longer side of the drip area, two darts are added to give the part stiffness and strength. This keeps the fender from moving around and hitting things outside of it when the car is moving.
There are ridges on the mountings to make them stronger while they are being fastened.
Mounting on the Sill Area
The sill is the piece of wood at the bottom of the door that holds up the floor and can be used to connect the floor to the rest of the building. For the fender panel to be stronger, the bottom of the fender is mounted on the sill body. The sill mounting position is made with holes and a raised area. The fenders are attached to the sill body with M5 fasteners.

Mounting on the Bumper Area

With the help of the fasteners, the plastic bumper is attached to the wing at the bumper mounting area.

DESIGN OF A-PILLAR MOUNTING AREA:

The A-Pillar is the part of the building that holds the roof and the body together. The sides of the windscreen can now rest. The A-Pillar and the front fenders together make a strong structure.

DESIGN OF BAFFLE MOUNTING AREA:

Baffle mounting, also called mudguard mounting, is a clip-on type of mounting that goes on the inside of the wheel arch over the tyre.

It keeps the car's engine compartment and people walking on the road from getting hurt by road debris that chips off while the car is moving.

They are attached to the wing with special plastic clips that lock them in place.

APPLYING OF THICKNESS TO THE SURFACE

The thickness of 0.75 mm inward on the final sewn surface of the wing to the sheet metal parameters.

Conclusion:
With the help of NX-CAD software and the master section, the wing is finally designed.
