Fender Design
FENDER DESIGN
AIM:
To design a front fender of a car by following a given class A surface and design consideration of OEM.
FENDER:
It is an aesthetic component/ part of a car that frames the wheels.Prevention of sand, mud particles from being thrown into the engine compartment and also to the pedestrian by the rotating tyres are the main purpose served by the fenders.

Types of fender:
Full bumper type: These types of fenders are used in earlier models. They contribute to major increment of the steel weight by just covering the front headlights with respect to the bumper region. The problem associated with this kind of fender is there is a lot of wastage in the blank and every inch of a material is a cost to the industry.

Half bumper type: These type of fenders are currently used to reduce the cost of steel and reduces the weight to improve the performance of the car.By slightly increase the blank size we can produce 2 fenders at a time.

Area to be considered while designing a fender:

1.Drip mounting area
2.Bumper mounting area
3.A-pillar mounting area
4.sill mounting area
5.Baffle mounting area
1. Drip mounting area:
Drip mounting area is the important part in the fender, this mounting is attached to the engine compartment of the car. Fender drip area is mounted at a minimum distance of 150mm from the front end headlight And 300mm or less from the rear end of A-pillar mounting. The total area of the fender should be less than 40mm due to spring back effect during manufacturing. The edge of the drip area should be 10mm away from the engine compartment.A dart is used to provide the strength of the drip area.

2. Bumper mounting area:
This mounting is used to attach the bumper to the fender. It should have enough strength to hold the bumper.

3.A-pillar mounting area:
This mounting area is used for attaching the fender to the A pillar of the vehicle. It is also providing with ribs to strengthen the part.

4.Sill mounting area:
Sill mounting area is created on the bottom of the fender, it is used to attach fender to the sill.

5.Baffle mounting area:
This area is created to attach the plastic component to prevent mud from wheel spin for covering the engine compartment.

Conclusion:
The front fender is designed as per the given master section and Class A surface as per the Master section OEM standard.
