Design of backdoor

REPORT : Back door of a vehicle is one of the most important part of the vehicle. It helps in covering the goods and things if we are placing any at the back part of the vehicle and it also provides an aesthetic appearance to the vehicle. Hence, we should design the back door of a vehicle with certain design considerations, strength factors and finishing factors.
Back door of a vehicle contains outer panel upper portion, outer panel lower portion, inner panel, hinge reinforcements, gas stay reinforcements, striker reinforcement and window panel reinforcement. We are taking an assembly file and are assembling all the parts mentioned above. We are considering the class A surface given to us and are first repairing the surface to avoid disjoints and then using that surface we are developing our rest of the parts by considering the proper dimensions and design considerations. We are using many commands such as sketch, datum plane, bridge curve, trim sheet, trim and extend, law extension, face blend, edge blend, swept, through curve mesh, extend sheet, emboss, mirror geometry, thicken, draft analysis etc. We are providing the minimum clearance distance between adjacent parts and also minimum clearance angle of 7 degrees wherever it is required. We are also creating and defining a tooling axis inorder to perform draft analysis on all the parts which we designed. Most importantly, hemmimg should be provided inorder to properly cover the inner panel and complete our assembly. Distance between outer surface and hemming surface should be taken as 2.65 mm and a horizontal gap of 2 mm should be maintained between inner panel and the hemming surface.
After completion of the designing procedure and creation of all the various parts of the back door, we have assembled it and completed the challenge. We have performed draft analysis on each part and concluded that it was clearing and satisfying the standard value corresponding to the draft analysis. We used wave geometry linker command to extract surfaces and create reinforcements for various components. Also, the minimum fillet value of 3.75 mm was performed on each edges wherever the readings were not given. Hence, the designing of the back door of vehicle was successfully completed.
