Creating Walls, Partition walls and Floors for a residential layout using REVIT

Question 1) Use the project file created from Week 2. Use it for this assignment. Based on your layout from week 2, using floor tool under architecture tab and select the floor with appropriate material and thickness using the property browser create a layout in the Ground floor Level. Align the floor plan with grids created from week 2.

AIM: To use the floor tool under the architecture tab and select the floor with appropriate material and thickness using the property browser create a layout in the ground floor level.

INTRODUCTION: Revit software is a software which allows the user to create a 3D model structure. It is an architectural, structural, mechanical software that provide the 3D of the buildings in a very realistic way.

PROCEDURE:

- So to create the floor using the architectural tool. First of all we need to go to the architectural tool from there just click on the Floor option just like as shown in the below image:

- After clicking on the option Roof there is another window named as Modify|Create Floor Boundary from there we have to pick the option Pick lines. And then draw the boundaries using pick lines option exactly shown in the below figure.

- After selecting the pick lines option select the boundary lines with pick lines same as the below figure:

- The pink lines represents the selected lines for the floor.

- After selecting the boundary lines just click on the Check Button present in the Modify|Create Floor Boundary tab as shown in the below figure.

- The floor is created using the floor tab in the Architectural view pannel.

- Here is the result:

- The coloured part is the floor which is just created by using the Floor Tab.

- Now we have to select the floor with appropriate material and thickness using the property browser create a layout in the Ground floor Level.

- To do so we have to click on the Property browser tab and from there itself we have to edit the materials which we want to add in the floor.

- We can modify the materials from there also. But if the desired material is not available in property browser then we have to go to the Edit Type option.

- So first of all click on the Property browser tab. There you will find an option named Edit type click on that.

- After clicking on that window the other dialouge box appears on the screen which contains various materials for various elements so from there we have to choose the desired material for the floor exactly as shown in the below figure:

- Just select the material from this dialouge box and then click on the OK option. The selected material will be provided on the floor.

- Here is the 3D view of the floor.

Question 2) Add walls based on the floor layout. Pick lines or use the draw tool to modify the boundary of walls. Use the property browser to select appropriate material and thickness for walls. After creating the walls verify using the property browser to see if the top and bottom of the walls are constrained.

a. Based on your observation, what is beneficial for connecting walls with associated levels rather than being Unconnected
b. Which option is convenient for modeling walls, By Height or By Depth?

AIM:

(a) To add the walls based on the floor layout.

(b) To draw the boundary walls using the draw tool or pick lines.

(c) To use the property browser to select appropriate material and thickness for walls.

(d) To see if the top and bottom of the walls are constrained using the property browser.

INTRODUCTION: Revit software is a software which allows the user to create a 3D model structure. It is an architectural, structural, mechanical software that provide the 3D of the buildings in a very realistic way. In this question we are going to see the proper usage of the pick lines or drawing tools, propety browser and the material property.

PROCEDURE:

(a) To add the walls based on the floor layout.

- So to add the walls on the floor layout. We have to go to the Architectural tab. In that tab there is an option called Walls click on that option. After clicking on the Walls option Click on the option Walls:Architectural and then press Enter.

- The image is given below:

- Now create the walls using different sizes on the given floor layout.

- I have drawn some new walls on the existing floor layout using the wall option of different sizes.

- The above walls are of different sizes and different properties.

- We can draw the walls with different properties using the property tab.

- We can edit our wall in this property tab.

- Or we can also edit our wall using the Edit type option present in the property tab.

- We can edit the wall by using the option Edit type in the property browser present.

- Just click on the tab Edit type and then a new dialouge box will appear on the screen as shown in the below image.

- This dialouge box contains various properties regarding the wall. So in order to change the wall properties just click in the Edit button pressent at the construction portion and then enter.

- After clicking on the Edit tab a new box appears on the screen called Material browser.

- In this dialouge box there are plenty of materials that we can choose in our plan. So just choose the material for the wall and after choosing the material just click on the OK button and the outer wall material is changed.

- Right now for my plan i want Concrete, Lightweight so i just simply click on that material and then click on the OK tab the material os changed for the exterior wall.

- Here is the result:

- Similarly you can change the wall properties for the in terior wall also just follow the same steps of the exterior wall for the interior wall. So in this manner you can also change the interior wall properties.

FINAL RESULT:

2(a) Based on your observation, what is beneficial for connecting walls with associated levels rather than being Unconnected:

Based on my observation it is beneficial for connectiong walls with the associated levels rather than being unconnected because whwn we associate the walls to the levels, then it will be much easier to adjust the height for all the walls at the same time. Thats why it is beneficial to connect walls with the associated levels rather than being unconnected.

2(b) Which option is convenient for modeling walls, By Height or By Depth?

In my opinion modelling walls by height is more convenient than the depth.

Question 3) Copy the model elements ( wall, floor ) modelled to Ground Floor Level and paste it aligned to First Floor Level . Use modify tab to utilize copy and paste options to align
elements to a different level.

AIM: To copy the model elements (wall and floor) to Ground level and paste it to the aligned to First floor level. Use modify tab to utilize copy and paste options to align.

INTRODUCTION: Revit software is a software which allows the user to create a 3D model structure. It is an architectural, structural, mechanical software that provide the 3D of the buildings in a very realistic way. So in this quiestion we will learn how to use the copy and the paste command in very detailed manner. Actually copy allows us to copy the elements which we want to copy and paste allows us to paste that copied element into our desired location. So here we will study about the copy and the paste tool which is available in the manage tab.

PROCEDURE:

- To copy the model element (wall and floor) to ground level first we have to select the plan including walls and floor.

- So after selecting the whole plan just use the Copy option in the modify tab as shown in the picture.

- Now select the whole plan as shown in the figure.

- Now paste this selected floor plan on the first floor level by using the Paste option from the Modify tab as shown in the below figure:

- And then paste it on the first floor level by clicking on the Paste option as shown in the below figure:

- Now the Final result is shown below:
