Comparing the methods of extracting the midsurface by using casting ,skin and manual methods
Aim: Comparing the methods of extracting the midsurface by using casting, skin and manual methods on the same component.
Software Used: ANSA
Manual midsurface extraction: Here we are extracting the mid surface by using the manually by using the offset option and we should generate the mesh manually by required options.
Midsurface extraction by Skin option: Here we are extracting the midsurface by using the automatically by skin option then later we can work on the mesh generation. this skin option is useful for the variable thickness component.
Midsurface extraction by casting: It is another automatic option to extract the midsurface .this option also generates mesh on the component and release the FE from the CAD later we should work on the mesh correction.
Batch Mesh: Batch is the automatic mesh generation which will help mainly on the defeaturing of the fillets in the component as per our requirement and also give the best possible mesh on the component.
About the Feature capturing:
*When we are comparing the Skin and casting methods Skin option is capturing the features perfectly but whereas the casting option capturing the features very badly as shown in the below figures.
*Here Batch mesh also captured feature perfectly but quality issues are more and we are handling them manually to clear the quality issues.

About Mesh Flow:
*When it comes to the mesh generation Batch mesh given the better mesh flow than the casting mesh but in casting mesh a good pattern of mesh is generated as shown below figure.
*Anyway we should work on the mesh generation on both Batch mesh and casting mesh later to clear the quality issues.

Learning Outcomes:
*Batch Mesh generation.
*Extracting midsurface by using the Skin option.
*Extracting midsurface and also mesh by using Casting option.
Conclusion:
*In Casting option it takes less time to mesh generation and gives the result.
*In batch mesh option it also takes less time for mesh generation and gives the good result.
*In manual mesh option takes more time depending upon the engineer and gives the perfect result.
