Challenge 9 : Project : Technical Surfacing Kia Sportage
Technical Surfacing of KIA Sportage.
Objective-
To generate a class-A surface model of KIA Sportage using Autodesk Alias.
Introduction –
Concept modelling provides a perfect way to document and conveying the precise meaning to the end users. It is a way to conceptualize and represent a two-dimensional sketch into a three-dimensional figure.
Class-A modelling includes modelling any freeform surface of high efficiency and quality. In Automotive design lingo Class-A modelling includes all visible surfaces (exterior and interior) of see-touch and feel parts.
Work Flowchart –
1. A dimension box is created using the reference figures using the given dimensions. (Height, Width, Length)
2. Images of the car from multiple views is imported into respective views and scaled down to fit the dimension box.
3. A wireframe model is built from one side while creating the surfaces parallelly.

4. The flow of the surfaces is checked using diagnostic shading and continuity is checked at every point.

5. The symmetry option is toggled to complete the whole model once one side is complete.

Conclusion
This exercise helped us to visualize a 3-D model using a representative sketch while working with multiple tools in Autodesk Alias to create a class-A surface model of KIA Sportage with continuous and smooth flowing surfaces.
