Challenge 4 : Concept Modelling of Alloy Wheel
Title of the Project: Rim design
Objective: The objective is to create the surfaces of half of a single spoke, then multiply the surface in a revolve pattern to get the complete rim design.
Design methodology: First I imported the canvas image and set the reference image to the center of the grid. Then using the circle command I created the perimiter in the size of the rim. Then duplicated the curve to create the inner perimiter of the round surface. Curves expanding from the center were placed at an angle of 36 degrees describing the borders of half of a single spoke. The spoke half was traced using curves and the central hub surface created and pushed inwards to give the rim some depth in 3D space. The curves were then joined by fillet curves - CV curves which have G2 tangancy to the main spoke curves. A surface was then created to join the perimiter surface and central hub surface. The spoke curves were then projected to it and the surface trimed of the holes. The central hub surface was then scaled up to cover the full surface of the inner part of the rim and curves created to outline the inner surface of the spoke. The inner and outter spoke surfaces were then joined by creating skin surfaces. These were then joined with fillet blends and altered to gain G2 tangancy but also have positional alignment to the inner and outter spoke surfaces. Once this was completed, the half of the spoke was mirrored(Symmetry activated and then chose option to create geometry). The bolt hole was then added and using the intersect function the surfaces of the spoke were trimmed to show the bolt hole.
All the surfaces were then selected and grouped, then using option Edit>Duplicate>Object the spoke was revolved in the Z axis and 3 more objects were added completing the 5 spoke rim design.
