Challenge 4 : Concept Modelling of Alloy Wheel

Title : Alloy Wheel

Objective: To model an alloy wheel

Introduction: Alloy wheels are wheels that are made from an alloy of aluminium or magnesium. Alloys are mixtures of a metal and other elements. They generally provide greater strength over pure metals, which are usually much softer and more ductile. Alloys of aluminium or magnesium are typically lighter for the same strength, provide better heat conduction, and often produce improved cosmetic appearance over steel wheels. Although steel, the most common material used in wheel production, is an alloy of iron and carbon, the term "alloy wheel" is usually reserved for wheels made from nonferrous alloys. Lighter wheels can improve handling by reducing unsprung mass, allowing suspension to follow the terrain more closely and thus improve grip, however not all alloy wheels are lighter than their steel equivalents. Reduction in overall vehicle mass can also help to reduce fuel consumption.

Methodology :

Description:

Concept modelling is done in many ways. First, import the picture of the alloy wheel. Once the curve networking is done, we add the surfaces to curve which gives the volume to the model.

The circle was drawn to fit the alloy wheel. The curves are arranged according to the shape of the given blueprint by stretching the CV hulls in all proportion view to build as 3D object.

To make the single part of alloy wheel it is constructed and required area of the surface has been projected for 54 degree angle and crop out excess surface using the trim option. The design of the alloy wheel is done for a single part then the symmetry option is used to draw a complete circle of the wheel alloy.
