Challenge 3

(submitted by Kurias.M.George)

OBJECTIVE

For the given component, check for the geometrical errors and mesh with the given element Quality criteria. After meshing the component, the thickness must be assigned.

The objective is to write a detailed report on your meshing process and mention which method you used to extract the mid-surface along with the reason.

METHODOLOGY

  • Initially u check for the geometry orientation. Then we adjust the orientation using ; faces à orient
  • Then we go for the topological errors in the model. We edit it using the cut tool
  • Fine tool under the auxiliaries is used to manage the shape
  • We do a overall topo.
  • Then We create a mid-surface for the meshing.

METHOD FOR MID-SURFACING

  • Generate an offset with half the thickness of the hood, was the method used for the mid surfacing.
  • \"\"
  • Inner hood and outer hood were separated. Then mid surface was created for each part according to the thickness that varied.
  • Then the mid surface is generated.
  • Then the mid surface isolated using the !knot operator

MESHING

  • Initially the Quality criteria and the mesh parameters are given in the challenge,we enter accordingly.
  • \"\"
  • Then we mesh the mid-surface area, part by part
  • After the meshing we analyse the mesh by checking for the off elements.
  • \"\"

RESULTS

  • The mesh for the model is obtained according the quality criteria
  • Trias was estimated upto 1.94%
  • Shell quads were estimated upto 98.06%
  • Total 92731 mesh was obtained

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Learned to mesh a component by taking its mid-surface. Learned to eliminate the off elements. Learned to mesh properly.

CONCLUSION

For the given component, the geometrical errors were analysed and meshed with the given element Quality criteria . After meshing the component ,the thickness is assigned.
