Project

Buckling analysis on a cyclonic separator stand using SOLIDWORKS.

AIM -

To perform a buckling analysis on a cyclonic separator stand.

OBJECTIVES -

1 - Create a metallic stiffener on the legs of the stand and run the analysis to find out the change in buckling factor of safety.

2 - Run a design study and find the optimum position for the stiffener.

INTRODUCTION -

The buckling analysis is performed on cyclonic separator stand in two different cases.

CASE 1 - The cyclonic separator stand without the stiffener between the stand.

CASE 2 - The cyclonic separator stand with the stiffener between the stand.

CASE 1 - The cyclonic separator stand without the stiffener between the stand.

The 3D model of cyclonic separator stand without the support of stiffener.

The above cyclonic separator stand is the solidworks part model where futher it is transformed to do a FEA buckling analysis. The separator stand which we see is fixed at end of four supports and the force of 1500N is applied at the top of the stand.

MATERIAL PROPERTIERS -

MATERIAL - Alloy Steel

MODEL TYPE - Linear Elastic Isotropic

DEFAULT FAILURE CRITERION - Maximum Von Mises Stress

YIELD STRENGTH - 6.20e+08 N/m2

TENSILE STRENGTH - 7.23e+08 N/m2

POSSION RATIO - 0.28

MAXIMUM DENSITY - 7.9e+10 N/m2

Here,we can the result of analysis were we found the resulant amplitude plot. The buckling factor of safety was found as 9.399 .As we know to safest factor of safety is considered that is above 3 .

Analysis type - Buckling Analysis

Mesh type - Solid Mesh

Solver type - FFEPlus

Here,we can the result of analysis were stiffener is used and we found the resulant amplitude plot. The buckling factor of safety was found as 27.9325 .

Design study for the optimum position of stiffener.

Here, we can see that from the design study the optimum position of stiffener is at 1000mm and the buckling factor of safety at that distance is 27.93 . As we know to safest factor of safety is considered that is above 3 .

After, doing the study of above two cases we found that the cyclonic stand with stiffener support is the best. The conclusion of the best is made from the results obtained from buckling analysis and its factor of safety.
