Benchmarking

Benchmarking

benchmarking is the comparison between similar products, services or processes on some dimensions of performance.it is used to compare the availability and delivery of features in a product and this often provides the basis of consumer tests and the reviews.it provides recommendations based on which is best or gives ranking amongst competitors.

The main objective of benchmarking is to identify the improvement opportunities in the product or process and compete in the market.

it not only compares products but also compares the processes involved in different organisations.

Process benchmarking can be

1.between similar processes within the same factory or service branch

2.between different factories or service branches

3.between different competing organisations

4.between different sectors using the same process.

Process benchmarking between competing organisations is harder because competitors will not disclose their precious information.

hence benchmarking amongst competitors involves a third-party,who collects the data, makes the comparison and provide feedback.

Benchmarking I involves product level comparison of the vehicle and some major aspects of improvement.

Benchmarking II involves specific changes to be made so as to accomplish the benchmarking I like material type, thickness quality, weight etc.
