Firstly, We will understand what Benchmark is.

Benchmarking in the Automobile industry involves a structured comparison between similar products, services, or processes on some performance dimensions.

CASE

Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, a five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest options for him to buy a good car for his family.

Note: Pughazhyendhii is fond of big cars.

OBSERVATIONS

Points we must kept in our mind before selecting any car, that

• Once a month He has to travel around 1000KMs.
• The daily commute to the office and some other kinds of stuff lead us to around an additional 1000-1500 km in a month.
• Which is a total of around 2500 KM in a month.

Now the question is, about the engine what are we going to choose either a petrol engine or a diesel engine?

• As we all know diesel engines in automobiles provide higher mileage, and also higher compression ratio, and it does not need a spark plug.
• Diesel fuel is cheaper than Petrol fuel.
• A diesel engine works at lower RPMs compared to a petrol engine which causes less wear and tear.
• Diesel engines are built for more torque.

We are going with the diesel engine. Now, let us see some options available in the market.

COMPARISON BETWEEN 4 CARS

Among these 4 cars...We have to select any one with considering bigger space in every aspect like;

1. Rear seat legroom
2. Recline angle of rear seats
3. Shoulder room

These feature are available in Tata Altroz.

But we need to think here, that among all these diesel variant cars, Tata Altroz itself is fulfilling our requirements in all factors. Cause in 2022, owning a diesel car with budget of 8-10 lakhs is quite tough as taxe on the vehicle has increased. So, we have a limited options.

• Engine displacement is of 1497 cc, which is good enough.
• Length, width and height compare to other 3 cars in the list, is quite lesser than that but if we choose other, then we have to increase the budget also.

See, there is no doubt in i20, safety features and all is good. In Kia there is also 4 number of airbags while there is only 2 in altroz.

But in safety, Tata Altroz rated 5 star Global NCAP....which quite big achievement.

CONCLUSION

• Overall, Tata Altroz comes under Hatchback category and if we are fond of big cars then we must be going for the SUVs.
• But with the price Tata Altroz is a good option to go for.

NOTE - We have also added 1 petrol car of sedan category, cause it also offers better legroom in both driver's seat and rear seat.

In this category diesel option is also available but it is out of our budget.
