BENCHMARKING

What is Benchmarking?

Benchmarking involves a structured comparison between similar product products, services or processes on some dimensions of performance.

For example it can be used to compare the availability and delivery of features in a product and in this form often provides the basis of consumer tests and reviews.

Process benchmarking of this kind can operate at several levels:

  • Between similar processes in the same factory or service branch
  • Between different factories or service branches
  • Between different competing organizations
  • Between different sectors using the same process.

STEP-BY-STEP BENCHMARKING

Benchmarking is a simple, but detailed 5 step process:

  1. Choose a product, service or interior to benchmarking.
  2. Determine which best-in-class companies you should benchmark against, which organizations you’ll compare your business to.
  3. Gather information on their internal performance or metrics.
  4. Compare the data from both organizations to identify gaps in your company’s performance.
  5. Adopt the processes and policies in place within the best-class-performers.

BENEFITS:

In addition to helping companies become more efficient and profitable, Benchmarking has other benefits.

  • Improving employee understanding of cost structures and internal processes.
  • Encouraging team-building and co-operation in the interests of becoming more competitive.
  • Enhancing familiarity with key performance metrics and opportunities for improving company wide.

Mr.D.S.Pughazhyendhi is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His family comprises of 5 members including his wife, 5 year boy, father and his mother. He once in a month visits his native place Madurai which is almost 500 kms away from Bangalore. Also he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 lakh to 10 lakh on road. Please suggest him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.

NOTE: Pughazhyendhi is fond of BIG CARS.

SOLUTION

1) Tata Nexon

Tata Nexon will come with Multi Drive Modes

The sub-compact SUV comes equipped with first-in-segment Multi Drive Mode feature. The Multi Drive Modes – Eco, City and Sport which gives you the best performance out of the vehicle. The Eco mode delivers higher fuel economy along with a smooth throttle response.

Tata Motors ensured that the Nexon is suitably kitted and gets all the right goodies including a sunroof and petrol/diesel engines with auto transmissions as well.

The Tata Nexon has a 1.2-litre turbo petrol good for 120hp of power and 170Nm whereas the 1.5-litre diesel makes 110hp and 260Nm. Both engines are available with a 6-speed manual or AMT.

Prices of the Nexon start from Rs 6.99 lakh, ex-showroom.

2) Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Overall, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is an impressive vehicle to look at and looks like a proper SUV with rugged character.

Engine

1,248 cc 4-cylinder DDiS 200

Distance covered

2,084 km

Average Fuel-efficiency

17.6 kmpl

Pros

Spacious cabin, great visibility, ergonomics and design

Rs.7.84 Lakh - 11.49 Lakh ;

Is Vitara Brezza a failure?

The engine is unable to pull the heavy weight of Brezza. I think Maruti has used same engine and put a heavy car above it which is good enough to show off and give competetion to other SUV's...but technically failed.

3) Hyundai Creta

Hyundai Creta is a great car in terms of its features and maintenance. The vehicle looks great and the interior is very comfortable. One of the best cars in this segment.

Cons-

  • Rear Seat Space. The rear seat is no longer as spacious as the outgoing model and three grown-up adults will be a tight fit.
  • No Manual With 1.4-L Turbo Engine. We all loved the new and powerful 1.4-L turbo GDI petrol engine.

Price: 10.2 Lakhs

4) Ford Ecosport

EcoSport is a really good car and is suitable for Indian road conditions. Be it engine, performance, ground clearance or any other factor that you might consider while buying a car, this American sub-compact SUV delivers it all!

Cons-

The common complaint about the Ford EcoSport is its jerky transmission and rough gear shifting. This has led to problems with acceleration and gear changes. Many of the owners who deal with this also experienced strange sounds, gear slipping, and trouble reversing the vehicle.

Price: 8 Lakhs to 11.7 lakhs

CONCLUSION

I would recommend TATA NEXON to Mr.D.S.Pughazhyendhi. Since he is fond of big cars and to make him very confort I suggest TATA NEXON. This car will give him a great pleasure.
