Aston Martin ONE-77 Challenge-11 (Project)
Surface Modelling of an Aston Martin Car using SolidWorks
Objective,
To perform surface modelling in solidworks to recreate the model of ASTON MARTIN using the blueprint provided.
Introduction
“Millions of miles start from single step”
This project is all about the interest in surface modelling which I have leaned for a while in skill-Lync. I have made a complete modelling of the famous model Aston martin DB one-77 using solidworks. I have detailed my methodology and key features used to create the model.
Requirements
- Aston Martin Blueprint
- Solidworks
Types of modelling
In this project I have used both the surface and solid modelling to finish out Aston Martin
- Surface modelling
Design of vehicle body, windshields and Doors comes in surface modelling.
- Solid modelling
Design of Rims, Tyres, disc brake, Calliper and Front lower bumper Trim.

Design Methodology
Placing the Blueprints
- Change the Dimension into cm.
- Go to Tools------Sketch tool---- and select the Sketch on the picture tool. This enables to sketch on the picture
- Select the plane and follow the above steps to paste the blueprints.
- Place the blueprint in the given dimension.
Staring with Roof top
To create the curve, we need two different sketches from two different planes
- First select the Right plane and draw the sketch using spline. Make sure the sketch is fully defined. After finishing exit the sketch.
- First select the top plane and draw the sketch using spline. Make sure the sketch is fully defined. After finishing exit the sketch.
- Go to Features------select plane and select the Projected curve
Inserting Reference Plane.
In this project we will be creating multiple planes to make sure the curve is drawn
- Select feature and select reference plane. In the dialog box give the dimension we need to.
Creating Boundary surface
To create a surface, we need a closed body and a guide curve
- To start with boundary surface, go to Surface ----Select the boundary surface icon in that select the boundary curve with is opposite to each other and same for guide curve.
Design of Fender
Surface Exclude
- Draw a sketch in the front plane
- Select the sketch go to surface exclude
- Using surface trim delete the surface.
- Respect the process to rear fender,
- After finishing the fender curve use surface fill the gap.
- After fishing knit the surface using knit surface option
Use the above step is to create the car body.
Design of Rear Strandard.
- In this we have to deal with a surface modelling with the use of curves and boundary surface.
- We need to offset the surface and use the ruled surface.
Design of Front standard
The same steps are used to create in the front standard, but we use additional tool and solid modelling.
- Copy or move surface are used to move the surface to one end.
Design of Hood
Final part of design of the car body without any details
Commands Used
- For 2D sketch
- 2-point or 3-point Splines
Used to create a spline
- Lines- Mid point line and construction line
Used to create a dotted line or straight line
- Circle
Used to create a circle
- Centre Rectangle or Rectangle command
Used to create rectangle sketch
- Offset entities
Used to offset the sketch from any other sketch
- Convert entities
Used to convert the pervious sketch into new one

Conclusion
From the above tools and methodology, I have successfully finished my Aston Martin DB one- 77. I thank MR. Akasay for helping me to finish my modelling and I thank Skill-Lync for providing this course.
