Assignment 5-RADIOSS Interfaces & Study of Effect of Notches Challenge
OBJECTIVE
- Create the mesh for bumper assembly, mesh size should be 6mm.
- Run the crash tube model as it is.
- Change the Inacti=6 and run.
- Create the type 11 contact and run.
- Remove both notches and remove boundary condition on rigid body node then run.
- Create a new notch in the middle ,select the whole section and run.
- Create a new notch with nodes only from opposing 2 faces and run.
PROCEDURE
- Open the given _0000.rad file.

- Go to Analysis-radioss-Select input file and run the simulation.
- Go to model-groups-self contact.Edit the card.
- Change the value of Inacti to 6.Again run the simulation.
- Go to groups-create.Change the card image to TYPE 11.Select the components.
- Give Istif=4,Stmin=1,Fric=0.25,Igap=1000,Gapmin=0.8,Inacti=6.Run the simulation.
- Remove all notches from the parts using align, project and translate options.

- Run the simulation.
- Create a notch in the middle of the part and again run the simulation

- Create another notch on two opposite faces.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Understood various types of contact and its applications.
- Understood the importance of notch in a crashbox.

CONCLUSIONS
Notch makes an important role in this part. When we add notch,it will absorb energy. So notch will reduce effect resulting from crash what reaching to person.
Maximum internal energy without notch= 20981.8 kg*mm^2/ms^2
Maximum internal energy without notch = 4230602 kg*mm^2/ms^2
So that notch is an important element in a crashbox.
Maximum contact energy without notch= 369.63 kg*mm^2/ms^2
Minimum contact energy with notch=1940.6 kg*mm^2/ms^2.
