Assignment 2-RADIOSS Engine File Editing & 3D Meshing Challenge

1. Check the material properties of the rail component and calculate the speed of sound in steel rail

Ans. 163.8 m/s

Δt=l/c=l/√E/δ= 1000/√21000/7.8E^-3=163.8

2. The length of the rail is about 1000 mm.calculate the time takes for a shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other.

Ans. Δt=l/c= 1000/163.8= 6.105 s

3.Time for sound to travel length of rail

Ans. 6.105 s

4.Edit the engine file so that the stress wave can be monitored, moving from one end of the rail to the other during impact -this will require a termination time equal to the time it takes for the sound to travel the length of the rail(set on/RUN card)

Ans.

As the time taken for shock wave to travel from one end to other is 6.08s hence the above vallue has been edited

5.Set the frequency of animation output to a time that will give 20 animation steps(/ANIM/DT)

Ans.

6.Change /print -10.

Ans.

Aim: To perform 3D and hexa meshing on the given model

Procedure: To perform tetra meshing on the Housing model and hexa meshing on the Arm bracket

Housing model

1. The model was checked for checked for free edges as there were no free edges on the comp

2. After this 2D meshing was done on the model

3. From this 2D mesh 3D mesh was extracted

4. The mesh was cleared through Check elem tab

Arm Bracket

1. For the arm bracket the model was Given 2D mesh on the base and Further this mesh was Transfered to hexa mesh using solid map

2. for Circular section the both sides were meshed and then the both faces were matched for hexa meshing
