Assignment 2-RADIOSS Engine File Editing & 3D Meshing Challenge
AIM-
1) to study the starter file and engine in RADIOSS user profiles.
2) change the parameter according to the requirement in the starter and engine files.
3) create the hexa mesh for arm bracket.
OBJECTIVE-
1) the check the material properties off all the rail component and calculate the speed of the sound in steel rail=
2) the length of the rail is about 1000 mm. calculate the time takes for shock wave to travel from one end to the rail to the other.
3) time for sound to travel length of the rail=....
4) edit the engine file so that the stress wave can be monitored , moving from one to rail to the other during impack .this will require a termination time eual to the time it takes for sound to travel the lemgth of the rail.(set on/RUN card)
5) set the frequency of the animation output to the time that will give 20 animation steps ( ANIM/DT)
6) change/print-10.
7) 3d meshing tetra mesh and hex mesh.
# report class examples and maintain the quality.
# target tet size = 5mm hex size= 10mm , tet collapse=0.15
PROCEDURE-
# importing RAD file ( first_run_0000) in hypermesh.
1) import the " rad" file as shown below in RADIOSS user profile.
2) browse the required file and cliclk import.
Objective): check the material properties of the rail component and calculate the speed of sound in the steel rail.
1) checking the material properties of the rail component.
2) go to model k and in properties you can see the required values.
3) we can also open " first _ run _0000.rad " stater file and notepad and find the same values. i have highlighted them below.
4) here rho _ initial = 0.0078 is the initial density and E= 210000 is the young's modulus.
5) speed of the sound material (c)= c= in root(210000/0.0078)= 5188.745m/s
objective2: the length of the rail is about 1000mm. calculate the time take for shock wave to travel from one end of the rail to the other.
1) shock wave travels at the speed of the sound.
2) therefore shock wave speed = speed of sound= 5188.745m/s
3) here distance of the rail d=1000mm
4)time(t)=(distance)/(speed of shockwave)
5) so time taken for a shock wave to travel the from one end of the rail of the other end = ( 1000/5188.745)
= 0.192725ms
objective 3: time for sound to the travel the length of the rail =0.1922725.25m/s
objective 4) edit the engine file so that stress wave can be monitored . moving from one end of therail of the other during impact- this will require a termination time equal to time it takes for the sound the sound to travel the length of the rail(set on/run card)
1) initially the end time is 60ms we need to change that we need to change that to 0.192725ms.
2) you can edit it in model deck > cards>eng_run>Tstop
3) you can also edit the Tstop value in engine_run_0001.rad file.
objective 5) set the frequency of animation output to a time that will give 20 animation steps( /ANIM/DT)
1) Frequency = time/ no.of revolutions = 0.1927/20 = 0.009635
2) similarly we can edit this is cards >ENGINE_ANIM_Dt or in (.rad file) first_run_0001.
OBJECTIVE 7) 3D meshing tetra mesh genration for housing component.
there are three method are generate tetra meshing as started below.
1) using the volume tetra option.
2) using the quick tetra mesh, from the utility panel.
3)converting 2D tria surface mesh into 3D hexa mesh.
1) volume tetra mesh.
i) go to 3D>>tetra mesh>>volume tetra.
ii)tick curvature and proximity options for better feature capturing of mesh.
iii) create the required solid or surfaces of each component indivisualy.
iv) volume tetra mesh is generated is successfully, i have masked some element in order to check the mesh which is generated.
v) similarly do the some proccess for the other solid to generate volume tetra mesh.
