Week 7- Meshing of Backdoor Challenge
OBJECTIVE-
to mesh the given backdoor geometry of the car through mannual manufacturing process and then eunciated in week 7 videos.to also insure that mesh is of highest quality with low no trais and good mesh flow.
PROCEDURE-
1) the part is to be meshed componenet by componenet so we need to pick one of them and extract its midsurface.we qwill need to carry out this mannually. firstly , a new component it created and well name its being and the component will be working on.
2)after that we can go to the component to be midsurfaced and measure it's thickness which is 0.75mm in this case. we need this for mannual creation of mid surface . and this is done using the offset tool surface its is a under surface edit.
3) the offset tool it's require a measurement half of the thickness which is would be 0.375mm in this case. we can select any one face from any one of the faces and then right click the surface and select by face whern this is done , the entire face is selected not the entire component.
4) before carrying out this step we need to ensure that the newly created midsurface component is our is current component. after confirming we can select duplicate by selecting the surface again and now we can select current component . the offset of the component is now transfferd to our newly created component but we are yet the offset the face.
5) before selecting the offset button, we can verify the upcomming offset normal which could be in the opposite ditrection if, so we can use the reverse normal option to reorient is to the opposite dirfection . then we can click offset .we now have our midsurface generated onto the newly created component.
6) considering the size of these component , to facilate the meshing process, we can work on half of the component and we can reflect it later as they symetrical about the center. this can be done by using the delete option and selecting half the component, if required we might need to use the split surface option from quick edit section.
7) i) as is cutomery with meshing , we start should start with the meshing from a certain region and work our way from that region ( prefarbly one more free edges) to help with this , we can make use of cutlines ( quick edit> split surface node) to split the surface into smaller surface from better mesh control.
ii) additionally we need toggle line that would hinder mesh flow and use to mesh our best judgment to make sure that the surface we ctrate do not encourage tria formation ( like pointed eges).
iii) after mesh is created , we can clean the mesh using various tools. primarily wer using the element optimize tool the drag tria tool and on extent the swap edge tool . these are accessed from quality index section in the 2D menu.
iv) after we take care of each surface (meashing and cleaning up) , we can move onto the next .proccesee is repeated untile we have the mesh entire component.
8) since the component is halved , we will need to make use of the reflect tool to the create the oyther symmetrical half. rflect tool can be accessed by going to the tool menu we will need to the select the element to the reflect first do take care not to select region that are not otherwise part of other half may not completly symmetrical . and then we cam select axis on which we are reflecting on then the base point . after that we need to right click elements in the reflect toolbar and select duplicate then we click than reflect . this we will create mirrored half of the current component.
9) we will now checjk the equalancy by going to the edges section in the tool menu and previewing the equivalancefor varying tolerance.this is to ensure there are no mis alighned element or free edges which can also check using diffrent option in the same section of the previwe equivalance option show to nodes that required using the replace node option.
10)after equivalancing , we can check for duplicate through the check element in the same menu . if duplicate exists . we can click save failed move on to the tool menu select the delete tool select element right click the delete button . this should handle the duplicate.
11) finally we can assighn a thickness for each our midsurface . they all measure the same -0.75mm we can click right click and creating the component in the component tree . after a property created we can go section in bottome left and scroll down assighn the afrometioned thickness by selecting the midsurface .
RESULTS-
the geometry has been mannualy midsurfaced and meshed with the best quality and mesh flow possible using optstruct. the mesh is not assighned the appropriate thickness 0.75mm to final mesh have been removed by the file as well.
