Assignment 2
Assignment 2 Explore SI Final Tutorial
1. Running the model at 1800 rpm and the corresponding outputs:
MODEL:

1. AIR FLOW RATE (kg/hr) : 24.6 kg/hr

2.BREAK MEAN EFFECTIVE PRESSURE (BMEP) : 9.5 bar

3. BRAKE SPECIFIC FUEL CONSUMPTION (BSFC) : 239.2 g/kW-h

4. IN-CYLINDER PRESSURE (bar) : 48.89 bar

2. RUNNING THE ENGINE AT 3600 RPM:
Running the model at 3600 rpm using same procedure used above.
The output Brake Power (kW) = 16.7 kW which is to be increased by 10%.

NOW INCREASING THE POWER OUTPUT BY 10%:
THE CHNAGES MADE TO GET THIS POWER OUTPUT ARE:
- Making the “AFR” richer; say “14.5 to 14”.
- Increasing the connecting rod length from 175 to180 mm.
- Also, the volume of the cylinder by increasing the “BORE” from 86 to 88mm.
- And the stroke from 86.7 to 90mm.
CHANGES:

BY DOING THIS THE POWER OUTPUT IS INCREASED BY 10%
FROM “16.7kW TO 18.5 kW”
OUTPUT:

CONCLUSION:
By making the AFR rich, the burning rate is increased and more torque can be generated. Also, by increasing the cylinder volume by changing the bore and stroke, more air can be filled such that more combustion can be done. By increasing the connecting rod length, greater torque can generated such that the power output of the engine model is increased.
