Assignment 1-2D Meshing Challenge

Aim: To mesh the given components using the given quality criteria and also to assign the material and thickness.

Procedure:

  • Let us first import the model into Hypermesh using Import Geometry tab.
  • After Importing, let us switch to topo mode and check whether the components given are solids or surfaces. Do the geometry cleanup using geom tab.

  • Yellow lines show us that the edge has an extra surface attached to it. Delete them. Red lines indicate the components have free edges between them. Using the geomtab we can use filler surface and replace point command. After doing the geometric cleanup following was obtained:

  • After observing the thickness of component, we found out that the thickness for the component is same. So, we extract the midsurface using the auto midsurface option using Skin Offset as extraction option. Geom > mid-surface > select geometry > extract

  • Now, defeaturing the holes in the components which have diameter less than 5mm. Geom > Defeature > Pinholes . Also, toggling the fillets for good mesh quality:

  • We will now set the criteria file settings.

  • Now, meshing the component one by one: 2D > Automesh > Surf > Displayed > Mesh. After meshing, use rebuild mesh, quality index for better mesh quality. The final mesh obtained for the component:

  • After meshing is completed for all the components, create a property of thickness and material as dummy and assign it to the components.

  • The final model obtained by property, by material:

  • Similarily, after performing the procedure for other components:

Part2:

Part3:

Conclusion: Hence, meshing of components was done with the given quality criteria. Dummy Material and thickness was also assigned to the components. Also, the use of mid surface extraction, automesh, rebuild mesh, quality index, etc. was done.
