Assembly of Yacht

MODELING AND RENDERING OF YACHT USING SOLIDWORKS

OBJECTIVE:

  • The objective of the project is to model a different component of the Yacht using SOLIDWORKS.
  • Assembly of all the model component of the Yacht.
  • Creating the photo-realistic view of Yacht using Solidworks PhotoView 360 or Solidworks Visualize.

Introduction:

A yacht is a power vessel used for pleasure, cruising, or racing. There is no standard definition, so the term applies to such vessels that have a cabin with amenities that accommodate overnight usage, luxurious cabin and all the necessities are perfectly loaded in a small power vessel.

Components of Yacht Modeled in Solidworks:

  • Yacht Propeller
  • Yacht Radar
  • Yacht Blueprint
  • Yacht Hull
  • Yacht Garage Door
  • Yacht Front Seat
  • Yacht Middle Seat
  • Yacht Rear Seat
  • Yacht Superstructure
  • Yacht Radar Mast
  • Final Yacht Assembly

BASIC DESCRIPTION OF PARTS AND FEATURE USED IN SOLIDWORKS:

Yacht Propeller:

The propeller is a rotating element in the yacht, the power transmitted from the yacht engine to propeller, which provides motion to the yacht.

Features Used:

  • Sketch
  • Revolve
  • Loft
  • Fillet
  • Cut Extrude
  • Fillet
  • Circular Pattern

Appearance: Brown_Colour

Yacht_Radar:

Radar is used to detect the objects and their position concerning our current location. Radar stands for- Radio Detection and Ranging.

Features Used:

  • Sketch
  • Boss Extrude
  • Fillet
  • Cut Extrude
  • Sketch Pattern
  • Mirror
  • Split Line

Appearance: Colour White with brown coloured font

Yacht_Blueprint Setup:

Generally, we set up the blueprint of any solid model for reverse engineering. With the help of blueprint, we roughly get an idea about the size and pattern of the yacht.

Yacht Hull:

Hull is the watertight enclosure of ship, which protect the entire ship/yacht from weather, flood and any structural damages. In this hull designing, I have applied multiples features while designing.

Features Used:

  • Projected Curve
  • Surface Loft
  • Surface Trim
  • Surface Extrude
  • Surface Fill
  • Surface Knit
  • Thicken
  • Shell
  • Fillet
  • Chamfer
  • Cut Extrude
  • Sweep
  • Revolve
  • Dome
  • Helix/Spiral
  • Linear Pattern
  • Delete Face
  • Split
  • Mirror
  • Split Line
  • Combine

Appearance: Multiple appearances applied to the hull part. Decals added on the floor of the yacht.

Yacht Garage Door:

The yacht garage door is been extracted from the hull part.

Features Used:

  • Imported
  • Cut Extrude
  • Shell
  • Fillet
  • Mirror

Appearance: White body with outer surface painted in blue colour.

Yacht Front Seat:

With reference to the Yacht Hull surface, I started the modelling of the front seat.

Features Used:

  • Sketch
  • Surface Sweep
  • Surface Extrude
  • Surface Trim
  • Surface Fill
  • Surface loft
  • Surface Knit
  • Chamfer
  • Revolve
  • Cut Extrude
  • Chamfer
  • Mirror
  • Dome
  • Fillet

Appearance: White

Yacht Middle Seat:

With reference to the surface of Yacht hull, I started modelling the middle seat and table.

Features Used:

  • Sketch
  • Boss Extrude
  • Chamfer
  • Fillet
  • Mirror
  • Cut Extrude

Appearance: White Seat with the light brown, grey table.

Yacht Rear Seat:

With reference to the surface of Yacht hull, I have modelled the rear seat with a flag on edge of the rear seat.

Features Used:

  • Sketch
  • Surface Sweep
  • Surface Offset
  • Surface Loft
  • Surface Trim
  • Ruled Surface
  • Surface Knit
  • Surface Extend
  • Surface Extrude
  • Surface Knit
  • Boss Extrude
  • Cut Extrude
  • Chamfer
  • Surface Offset
  • Surface Trim
  • Combine
  • Fillet
  • Mirror
  • Revolve
  • Surface Fill

Appearance: White coloured seat, with grey coloured frame and red flag

Yacht Superstructure:

Thus, superstructure means to add construction to an already existing hull structure. Usually, in ships, this is the name given to the part of the ship that emerges from the hull. Mostly I contain control room, luxurious rooms, party halls etc. In this superstructure contains the water pool with the wooden decal's stairs.

Features Used:

  • Surface Extrude
  • Surface Sweep
  • Surface Knit
  • Ruled Surface
  • Surface Trim
  • Projected Curves
  • Surface Loft
  • Surface Fill
  • Surface Sweep
  • Surface Extrude
  • Surface Knit
  • Surface Fill
  • Fillet
  • Surface Extend
  • Surface Knit
  • Delete Face
  • Boss Extrude
  • Cut Extrude

Appearance: White body with Navy blue painted surface, Grey and Black coloured glasses and wooden decals on the stairs with transparent water pool.

Yacht Radar Mast:

The radar mast/antenna is been installed in all the yacht. It helps and prevents the collision of vessels in fog and in low light. The Radar will be installed in the radar mast.

Features Used:

  • Sketch
  • Boss Extrude
  • Fillet
  • Revolve
  • Sweep
  • Mirror
  • Cut Extrude
  • Shell
  • Dome

Appearance: White Body

Assembly of Yacht:

All the above components are taken and open into the assembly section of Solidworks and with the help of different mating features, the entire assembly will be created.

After Completed the assembly of the yacht the camera setup to be completed and light and scene get be adjusted and once after completion of all, I started the rendering in photo view 360 or Solidworks visualizer.

Yacht Rendering:

Conclusion:

In this course, I have gone through the balanced usage of surface modelling and solid modelling. Each component has a different level of difficulties. I have gone covered the surface level of the features used in Solidworks. The rendering one was a little tricky because of the unavailability of the HDRI file of water bodies. Hence I have done the rendering in photo view 360.
