Analysis on a plate with a hole
Aim :- To perform a static analysis on two models of plate with holes
Objective :-
- To perform a static analysis on two models of plate with holes (plate with single hole and a plate with three holes )
- To apply a fixed relation to one of the short side of the plate and apply a force of 1000N on the other such that the plate is stretched.
- Run the analysis and compare the results for stress, strain and displacement
3D Model :-
- Fig-1 shows the plate with a single hole of appropriate dimensions
- Fig-2 shows the plate with three holes of appropriate dimensions
Procedure :-
- The procedure for the plate with one hole and three holes is shown below
- For all the two cases the part material was selected as Alloy steel
- The fixtures command is used to fix the one vertical face so as to perform the operation
- Load of 1000N was applied on the opposite face to the fixed face in each case
- Mesh value was selected as 6mm ( ie the manual mesh )
- Finally the results for stress, strain & displacement were obtained for the each case
Case-1 Plate with one hole :-
Case-2 Plate with three holes :-
Result :-
- Thus we have studied the static analysis on two models of plate with holes
- Modelled the plate with single and three holes and ran the simulation
- Performed the static analysis for the two cases and obtained the results for stress, strain and displacement
Case-1 Plate with one hole :-
- The below video shows the analysis of plate with one hole for three conditions as stress, strain & displacement analysis
- Also the result comparision is shown for the stress, strain & displacement
Case-2 Plate with three holes :-
- The below video shows the analysis of plate with three hole for three conditions as stress, strain & displacement analysis
- Also the result comparision is shown for the stress, strain & displacement
Conclusion :-
- For the case 1 the values for the stress and strain seems to be higher than the case 2
- The case 2 has less stress values compared to case 1 as the plate has three holes
- Thus in case 2 ie plate with three holes the 2 extra holes on the sides of the main hole acts as an auxillary hole and thus provide reduction in stress concentration factor
- The comparision of two case results also shows that the displacement is more in case 2 than case 1
- Thus the best suited case is the analysis on a plate with three holes
