Challenge

Analysis & Design of RCC shear walls in the model using ETABS

Aim

To create the G+6 building and then run and analysis the design of shear walls

Procedure

To know the design of RC shear wall using the ETABS analysis

To know the basics of shear wall reinforcement detailing with respect to primary standards

To ensure the ductility reinforcement required by IS-13920-2016 been satisfied in reinforcement drawing

After creating the structure we have to check the longitudinal reinforcement

Concrete beam design-Design beam info and then click the longitudinal as well as the shear reinforcement \

Concrete beam design - design beam info- We also check the boundary zone width

Detailing Guideline for Shear wall

1 Minimum reinforcement for shrinkage & temperature

2 Ultimate limit state design rebar requirement

3 Ductility rebar requirement

Among these whichever is greater should be drawn in RC shear wall detailing

Classification of shear wall as per IS-13920-2016 clause 10.1.4 slender wall

hw/Lw =21000/1500 = 14 > 2

Minimum net vertical reinforcent as per IS-13920-2016 Table-1 (3) 2363 mm^2

=0.0025+0.01375 (300/1500)

Minimum vertical reinforcent within boundary element Table-1 (3)

1440 mm^2 on left (600 mm width boundary element )

1080 mm^2 on right (450 mm width boundary element )

Detailing Guideline for shear wall

Minimum horizontal reinforcement in shear wall as per IS-13920-2016 Table-1 (3)

(Ph)min = 0.0025 + 0.5(hw/Lw -2)(Ph-0.0025)

Ph = 750/(300*1000) =0.0025 hw=21000 Lw=1500

(Ph)min = 0.0025 which is same 750 mm^2/m

Maximum diameter of rebar for shear wall as per IS-13920-2016 clause 10.1.8

1/10th of wall thickness = 300/10 = 30 mm

Commercial rebar diameter 25mm shall be adopted

Detailing guideline for shear wall

Confining reinforcement spacing for boundary element as per IS-13920-2016 clause 10.4.4

1 1/3 of minimum member dimension =300/3 = 100 mm

2 6 times smallest main rebar = 6*25 =150 mm

3 150 mm permissible if vertical bars are spaced at maximum 200 mm

Maximum spacing of confining reinforcement in boundary element 150 mm

Confining reinforcement within boundary element as per IS-13920-2016 clause 10.4.4

Ash = 0.05 Sv h fck/fy

Sv =150 mm , h= 1000 mm

Ash = 452 mm^2
