Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge_5_Odd Shaped Enclosure

Title of The Project: Advanced sheet metal design using NX CAD 11 challenge 5.

Objective: to design an odd-shaped enclosure using nx cad 11.

Introduction: NX CAD is an advanced high-end cad software. It is owned by siemens. Nx cad is mostly used for designing parts made up of sheet metals (ex: aeroplanes, automobile etc.)

Sheet metal: Sheet metal is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Sheet metal is one of the fundamental forms used in metalworking, and it can be cut and bent into a variety of shapes. Sheet metal has a uniform width.

Design Methodology:

Description:

  1. Sketch: the feature that allows us to sketch the various shape and cross-section of the model.
  2. Tab: tab is the basics feature of sheet metal designing; it is basically extruding a sketch along a vector by uniform thickness.
  3. Flange: used to create an extended part of sheet metal.
  4. Unbend: used to obtain a plain sheet metal without any bends. It is done by selecting a stationary face and unbending the other bend face w.r.t the stationary face.
  5. Re bend: returns the model to the original way.
  6. Dimple: to create a pitch up or down the surface.
  7. Bead: used to give the sheet metal extra strength.
  8. Hem: folds the edges of the tabs and flanges.
  9. Closed corners: used to make closed corners.
  10. Normal cut: make a cut that’s normal to the sketch.
  11. Jog: modifies the model by lifting the material from one side of the sketch line, thus adding a flange.
  12. Sheet metal from solid: wrap the solid bodies with sheet metal.
